thanks Bubba, i just bought 2 off tower hobbies ahould be here in a few weeks, maiden will have to wait till then
its quite cheap if u ask me all up 2 pro zinger props will cost me about 100 Aussie Bucks where if i go to the LHS it will cost be 80 for one apc prop
kinda crazy hehe.
also Bubba just curious on your Cowl Intake's there is one side blocked off.! should i use the dremel and open it up or just leave it.??

RE: GP Cap 232

On mine I opened it up so I can reach in and operate my choke on the DA50 but then my engine is inverted. For side mounted glow engines, It's best to leave it closed so you get more ram air going over the engine. Just make sure you open up the bottom to let the hot air out

I opened mine for the OS 160 and it worked out fine. Engine didn't overheat and ran great. Not sure this is the best way but just in case ya did it, don't worry about it.:D:D

I used a tape measure and measured it at the widest part of each surface. I'm basically beyond what the book tells you as I have max throws on everything. When I balanced mine I marked the top of the wing on each side, flipped the plane over and put my fingers on each mark and lifted. I used to use the CG machine but for larger planes it does not work well

RE: GP Cap 232

We sat my CG machine on a box to get clearance for the tail and then balanced the plane. It balances great that way. Every one we've tried to balance using fingers game out way nose heavy.

RE: GP Cap 232

Aussie,

We also had one of those great flying days. Temps in the mi9d 60 degrees, no wind to speak of. I flew the Cap 9 times until one of the tubes came off the muffler during an inverted Lomcevak and the Ultimate saw 10 flights. Plus the club presidents son in law came over with a new trainer that I did the maiden on and had him do his 5th - 8th flights with the last 3 doing his very first takeoff's

SO counting the training sessions I spent most of the day at the flight line...

My butt is wiped out big time [sm=confused_smile.gif]

I'm SSSOOOO jealous!!! Been in the 30s here with rain and wind. Spent the last two days getting the BCMA 40cc set up in my CAP (converting over from the OS 160). Breaking the engine in and after three tanks of gas through it it's spinning an APC 18x6W at 8700rpm. Once the power comes on (after two gallons of gas) I'm going to switch to a 20x8 Mejzlik. Should 3D great! :D:D:D:D

RE: GP Cap 232

Nice looking setup on that engine,

Make sure you pin the firewall. I did not see any on the pic. That's important on a gas engine

Al Lewis 11-25-2006 08:10 PM

RE: GP Cap 232

Trust me, that suckers double re-enforced and bolted solid with JB Weld for thread locker. We've ran 3-24 ounce tanks of gas through it static and nothings budged!! My legs are numb and my ankles killing me but nothing on the plane has budged!![&:][&:][&:] That shot was taken when we first bolted the engine on.

By the way, I love your comment "I will not buy anymore planes, I will not buy anymore planes, I will not buy anymore planes,
wow look at that one,
OK starting tomorrow I will not buy anymore planes,I
will not buy anymore planes " I may have to revert to that one myself. I gave away 5 others to make room.

RE: GP Cap 232

Yep, it tells a lot about me. The problem is now they are getting bigger. My girls and son-in-laws all got together and just ordered me this for an early Christmas present.

http://www.troybuiltmodels.com/CARF260.htm

It's the one in the first pic, the yellow Kiwi scheme. I already have a NIB DA150 from last Christmas.

I'm down to 2 glow and 7 gas planes. The glows are a 4*60 and a Goldberg Sukhoi.

The gas ones are

GP Cap232
GP Ultimate
GP Super Stearman
33% WH Edge 540T
Aeroworks 50cc Yak
Aeroworks 50cc Extra
Another Goldberg Sukhoi with a G26 in it

I'll be selling off a few of the above to A) make room for the new one, B) afford to purchase the "goodies" for the new one

Sorry about the pin suggestion. IN the pic I could not see the reinforcements

RE: GP Cap 232

Sweet!!! I love the color scheme. Way too big and too many bucks for me right now. Just got the wife a new Solstice for our 35th. Good luck with the new plane buddy!!! My next will either be the GP Ultimate with a 40cc BCMA or a WildHare plane I've been eyeing, http://www.wildharerc.com/Products/Edge120/edge.html with the same engine or maybe a GFI 45cc. First I have to finish the CAP gas conversion, the Super Stearman rebuild, and try and learn to fly the last two I put together more then once.:D:D:D:D

bubbagates 11-25-2006 09:36 PM

RE: GP Cap 232

I would easily recommend the Ultimate. Mine is powered by a Brison 3.2 (52cc) and it's plenty and a smoke system to boot. The WH baby edge flies very well on an OS160 or a Evolution 26. There are two at another field I fly at, both with the engines I mentions and they love it. My 33% flies just like the 28% but bigger.

Don't let what I mentioned about all my big stuff get you thinking. I just started to get into GS late last year. I still enjoy taking the 4* up now and then. The GP Cap232 with my the DA50 is my favorite right now as it does everything I ever wanted it to do.

I almost went and ordered a Carden 30% Cap then GP came out with this one so I went with it and I'm glad I did. Not that I have3 anything against a Carden, I( flew one last year and loved it, no bad habits at all, just like this Cap

Al Lewis 11-25-2006 09:43 PM

RE: GP Cap 232

Yeah, I can tell you that Kyle flies a 40% Carden Edge and loves it. He says it does everything and from what I've seen him do he's right. I'm really trying to convert everything above a 60 to gas this year and may start on a 33 or 40% next year depending on how well my 3D training goes. Bigger is definately more stable and therefore better in my book. Trust me, I have a plan, I'm just not sure what it is right now!!!:D:D:D:D:D

Bubba, i just got back from the flying field and well we had some visitors i have never seen before and they had to Huge Planes One was a Yak ( Red Bull scheme ) and another bloke had a big giles 2020 and it with heaps bigger than the cap and they both had gas motors, and they absolutly sound Great i now sorta regret not buying a da 50 for my cap now, but i think im going to have to build another one with a da 50 in it. i think gas is definatly the way to go. im just curious Bubba if u could post some pics with ur da 50 in it....

Here ya go...I do not have any showing how it's mounted but I will be removing the cowl in a day or two to replace the muffler and I'll get them then

:)There's some great pictures of Bubba's Cap including the engine on page 6 of this thread. Also 1 or 2 of mine with the EVO45.

thanks

Hi Guys,

one question to those, flying with the OS 160: Did the setup work as shown in the manual or is a pump (thinking about a Perry pump) mandatory?
The distance between tank and engine looks a little bit for long to me!?
/Peter

Al Lewis 11-26-2006 11:57 AM

RE: GP Cap 232

I've had this engine in two planes now and never used or needed a pump for this engine.

hey guys. how r we all.??

also Bubba, just curious but did u have a bad day when u put the elevators on.?? seams to be the wrong way!!

I'm looking for my first big gasser and want a sport acrobatic plane. Is the GP Cap232/ Fuji 43 a good combo? The intent is lots and lot of rolls, loops, snaps, knife edge..............touch and go's, no 3D'ing .
