Lets focus on what you have right now.

The Edge 120 with the Moki 135 should be able to hover the easiest. You to should use a large diameter flat pitch prop perferably with a wide blade. The moki 135 has almost the same amount of power as the OS 1.60 FX. You should try the 18x6W APC or 17x6 APC on this plane. This will greatly increase the thrust of this engine. The inline design of the Edge should lock the edge in for the elevator but you will have to make corrections for the elevator. Use about 3" of throw for the elevator and 4 1/2" for the rudder for 3D. Some expo (50% on 3d rates) should help keep the plane somewhat docile. A more rearward CG also helps. To the guy using the US35 bad idea. Too heavy with too little output. Too heavy of a plane is the biggest mistake in trying to do 3D. Keep this plane around 11 to 12 pounds for 3D.

With the 1/3 scale Pitts Special using the Fugi 50 you should be thinking about a 22x8 or a 22x10 Menz Standard prop. This plane has a short tail moment and therefore less time to make corrections in a hover making it harder. The Pitts Special is not really a 3D plane but it is capable of torque rolling.

On the Ultimate Bipe use a 17x6 or a 16x8 APC.

One of the best combos I have seen in action in the 120 size is the Dave Patrick Ultimate Bipe w/YS140. This plane was using a 17x8 APC and has just the right balance of power and light weight to perform 3D well.

The Fun50 is too small for the YS 91. I've seen one up close and it looks like it is built very well, plus it has an airfoil horizontal stab. It would do well with a Saito 72 or similar, but a 91 would be too much for it.

I think a QHOR 40 size with a 60-75 engine would work great for hovering. A buddy has one with a Magnum 75 and I like it so much that I just ordered the equipment to build one for myself. I'm going to pwer mine with an OS 65LA.

The UCD is an excellent hovering airplane with a 91 four stroke, and I have not had problems getting mine to snap roll, blender, and other maneuvers. It rocks its wing in a harrier but it can be greatly reduced with spoileron mix.

Hey guys,

We are flying a AW 36% Edge 540 with a DA 100 for power. And the thing is one of the easiest and best flying and hovering/tr plane I have ever flown. Yes it definately help to have a engine with lots of power and a big wide prop with low pitch. Good Luck.

Lanier Pro twister,and Saito .72,Hovers just great at about half throttle,it will harrier,flatspin,waterfall,knifeedge loop;basically ,whatever you ask from it.

I've got a SuperCraft Cap 232 (60) in the box yet, how about that for a trainer to hover. What power-plant should I use in the two-cycle category. Or should I buy a U-Can-Do if they are as easy to hover as everyone says they are.

The UCD 3d is easy to hover but most of the people hovering them already know how to hover and then say it is easy to hover the UCD 3d. I think you are just going to have to burn the fuel on any plane you decide to use.
