Planes and Engines that hover...only. Please apply.
I've been flying R/C for two years now and just can't get a plane to hover, it's always under-powered. My engine, prop, and plane choices are the problem, so I'm taking the blame. But I want to join in on the fun, so I want to compile a list of your planes, engines, and prop combinations that will hover.

Zinger 14-4, MA 13x6 K Series
4.5 to 5 Lbs. Mine might be a little less with the equipment I'm running, but that's a pretty conservative *real* weight for one.
Sorry, no pics yet.
Same performance can be had with the kit version...maybe a little better with the lighter weight.

Props: APC 16x4W funfly
Menz S 15x8
Bambula 16x6 (definitely my favorite on this combo)
Weight: 7lbs, 9oz.
The plane hovers easily, but doesn't do too much else well. I can't recommend it except to learn hovering. Doesn't snap or spin well at all, and has a very strong pitch couple with rudder input.

Too many to list if we are talking about planes flown. Not planes owned.
And, my list only only includes plane I have right now that I hover.

Lots of burnt fuel is really the key.
I found when learning to hover or TR the right plane is far more important than having the right plane after you know how to do it.

The planes listed are a combination of the three members that are trying to hover. We all have flown them and attempted hover with them. I(we) enter the (attempted) hover by making a low slow pass over landing strip, then pitch-up quickly while adding power. I try do do it as close to me as possible so I can see what the plane is doing, but not to close because it always falls out.
We do not have any planes that are vertically unlimited with the engine/prop selections. Actually some will climb out slowly at full throttle but there is no reserve power, so it would be hard to pull out, if we could hover. I think we have the talent to do it but are lacking the right stuff, weather it be planes, engines, or both. That's why I'm asking the guys (you) who know how, for help. What I plan on doing is matching one of the combinations you guys have, then I'll have no excuses. Unless you think one of the planes we have will work with a different prop. Also I'd be open to suggestions as to what plane is good to learn with, such as the mentioned UCD.

The UCD is VERY easy to hover. Mine has the Saito 1.00 but I am sure a good .91 Four cycle would be fine also.
The UCD flies fine but for any 3D beyond hovering or TR'ing it pretty much sucks.. Its does some FUNKY things with rudder.

I can't believe you think the ucd can't do anything other than hover!!! Mine does harrier rolls, very flat spins, blenders, waterfalls, pop-ups, tumbles and just about anything you can imagine. have you tried moving the cg?

The UCD will do everything you stated but IMO it just doesnt do it very well.
There are much better planes out there for a guy who is wanting to learn 3D.

I agree about the UCD. I bought one when they first came out and beyond hovering, I really did not like the way it 3D. It was a good flop around the sky type of plane. Compared to my Funtana the UCD was pretty terrible and I sold it after 2 weeks of flying it. I never could figure what all the hoopla was about this plane.

I think the u-can-do with a 91ys (better still, wait for the 110)
with apc 16/4w and a very aft cg.....should almost hover by itself!
I don't see how it would be able to do a nice tight tumble or waterfall with such a long fuse though !
