You could try a slab sided full fuse version. Keep the profile, just add another side.

That would be even stronger then a carbon rod. I'll have to see what the weight penalty is first.
I read in another forum about a guy that uses 1/4x/18 spruce, anyone else doing this?

Using Depron instead of fan fold helps also, but it's a cost issue... 3 bucks for a plane that can do almost everything aint bad... Even with a bit of twist...
We are talking about cheap, easy to build and extreme airplanes here. Even for the price of depron, this airplane beats the price and the performance of any acrobatic foamie available on the market.

Based on this idea I built my Foamie Edge (I love Edge 540). I used poster boards from Wall Mart, so I my limit was 30in wingspan. Carbon fiber here and there, and with GWS powerplant an 8x720mAh NiMh it weights 12 oz. It's my number 1 for small field and indoor flying.

Now when I finally got 60 boards of Polipron (the German version of Depron 20inx40inx5mm), my Foam Edge Factory will run at full steam:D.

Thie following picture is the frame from the vido taken, when we were flying this nice plane some night on the parking lot.

Hey Tim,
I went to the JR GWS festival In Columbus OH. Your Ultimate was a big hit! It flew awesome. Unfortunately, It got hit a couple of times and went in from about 30 feet. It is still flyable, but it is getting a little weak.
WE are kitting a cnc routed version of my blue edge called " Tempest". We sold all we had on hand.
I bought a new kit called " Vertigo" from Radical RC. All I can say is WOW! It was designed By Jason Noll, and Bill Cline. Jason was flying his like a mad man, Harrier rolling circles 6" off the deck. Inverted flat spins down to 2 '.
Jim Dewinter was nice enough to let me fly his and I was impressed. It flies like a 1/4 scale.
A young man named Andrew Zesky Had A foamy Yak That he flew. He is obviously a world class pilot.
All of these guys were really nice and helpful. I had a blast hanging out and Flying with them.

i used the part # 15346 above and found it at lowes Fanfold
its $30.00 and they have 90 bundles.
how many planes can be cut from 4 foot x 50 foot probably a lot huh.

Thanks

also where is everyone having the best luck getting plans printed at?

RE: Front Yard 3D+Video

The easiest way is to print off the pdf versions (30 pages) and stick them together. Its nowhere near as frustrating, boring and mindnumbing as you might think[:@]

I did that today taped them to my front door so i could see through the pages
got it all taped then cut out and then i thought hum i never checked the inch grid
so i did and was off 3/16 on every 2 inchs so i figured i may try resizing the print outs tomarrow and see what happens.

Thanks

RE: Front Yard 3D+Video

3/16" every 2 inches won't hurt anything. Every printer driver treats the pdf a little differently so variations do occur. However, make sure that the "fit to page" and "auto rotate" boxes are NOT checked in the Acrobat print dialouge box when you print the plans. Most errors occur if those are checked.

This really bites, razor has upped the price on all their motors ten dollars! I am a kid and don't have enough money to buy a 90+ dollar motor. That is starting to edge into hacker territory. I know that razor is a one man company, and I would like to support him, but when you are a kid there is only so much you can afford. I am now thinking about the HiMaxx, MiniAC, and Astro motors. They all seem to be in the same ballpark as these, the Himaxx being up with the Razor 2500.

Well, I went to Lowe's and they had the YELLOW??? stuff.

It's a dark yellow with black plastic covering and called SUPER-TUFF-R. Advertised as a half inch thick but I measured it to 10mm.
Any idea what it is and how its weight compares to the blue stuff?

3DFanatic,
If I were in your position I would not waste my time with the fan fold. Drive to Seattle and get you some depron. When me and my friends saw the difference between the two materials we all paid the extra $ for a superior product. Just my .02.

3DFanatic

I don't have information on the yellow stuff, but here is a weight comparison of most of the others...

Here's how they stack up:

White Foam-Core with the paper peeled off: 0.6 Oz/SqFt
Georgia Pacific BlueCor with the skin: 0.75 Oz/SqFt
Black Foam-Core with the paper peeled off: 0.8 Oz/SqFt
Amocor Green Foam with the skin: 0.95 Oz/SqFt
Owens Corning Pink, has no skin: 1.0 Oz/SqFt
White SturdyBoard with the Paper on: 2.0 Oz/SqFt

I still think the blue stuff is worth looking for if you don't want to spend allot of money...but if money is no object, by all means go for the Depron!

Either way you'll have a BLAST!!!

RE: Front Yard 3D+Video

I'm not driving 50 miles to Seattle for a little bit of depron!

I'll go out on a limb and try the yellowcore/black covering stuff.

Tim:
Just wanted to add to the many that have thanked you for the FABULOUS 3Dx. 3 of us have recently built a 3Dx. Mine was the first to fly.
Components:
Razor Micro Heli
Phoenix-25 Speed Control
E-Tec 3-cel 1200ma Lipo
Hitec Featherlite Rx
HS-55 servos
12.1 oz.
This bird flies like a dream. Vertical till you can't see it. It is truly a hovering machine. It is incredible what slow speed performance this plane has.
The only problem that I have encountered is when I take it out to our mostly Fuel powered aircraft field, I may fly only 1 or 2 flights.......everyone else has to take a turn. By the way, we get between 19 and 25 minutes per flight.
Thought you might like to see what it looks like>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>>

Looks really nice! I am hoping to get mine together pretty soon. After reading some stuff on rcgroups.com and getting some replies, the mp jet doesn't seem to be that bad after all. The smaller one seems to be more finicky. I put it into motocalc and it liked the 12x6 on the 4:1 ratio already with the mpjet gearbox.

Blackhawk3D 10-18-2003 12:10 AM

RE: Front Yard 3D+Video

Also I read a comparison thread of this motor vs. the razor 2500a and they were almost identical in performance. The mp jet is only an ounce heavier. I think this is an acceptable trade off when you are paying 40 bucks less.

Hi guys,

I finaly get pictures of my Edge put together.
You can see all the stuff at my "webpage":
[link=http://m.modelersinc.home.comcast.net/edge540/edge540.html]http://m.modelersinc.home.comcast.net/edge540/edge540.html[/link]

You can find a video of torque roll (to much wind for that).

Yes, the camera man run away:D.

GWS motor and Gearbox

I can find plenty of GWS EPS 350C gearboxes with 6.6:1 ratio.
Where can I find a GWS EPS 300C gearbox?
An earlier post had the url:http://www.aeromicro.com/Catalog/gws...ds__803630.htm, but that doesn't work???
I have the Razor + speedo on order, together with carbon tubes and Depron. Just stuck with the gearbox[>:]

nosram, both share the same gearbox. Try Balsa Products.

nosram,

The 350C and 300C gearboxes are the same. I think the 300C has been discontinued and has been replaced with the EPS 350C. The motor can sizes and mounting are exactly the same. I recently put a 350C motor in my 300C gearbox (burned out the original).

RE: GWS motor and Gearbox

Yup, they are exactly the same, except the 350 has a different wind motor. More power and more amp hungry. Buoth will work fine...

Tim

cmassa 10-20-2003 10:19 PM

RE: GWS motor and Gearbox

I've noticed they are more amp hungry than the 300. I barely get 4 minutes out of my NiMh batteries. I also can't push it to full throttle without the speed control cutting out quickly. It hovers at less than 1/2 throttle. Should the 350 be retimed? (I did)

Chris
