RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
ORIGINAL: raideron CeeGee... I know, I thought I'd get it done while the boss was gone.. But then the little boss came to watch me:-)... And I have one in the Box to finish... I'm flring the profile now... But I have been going to the field less It's just TOO HOT........ Gary... I have to try your way into the K.E. spin.... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
hey RADERON what happened to your plane? and how about engines? which engine would be BEST for my money? TT 91 4 stroke? and is there anything i need to know while building this plane?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
xoon... The only 4c's that I have is the Mag 91 and 2 ea. of the YS 63
and 110.... So I'm not sure about the TT.... If I had the $$$$ I would put the Saito 100 in my UCD because of the weight:-) The plane flies great!!.. It is built light, So you know what that means for landings... But it is by far the easiest plane to land!! The main thing I would do is add some strength to the landing block area... adding triangle stock is best, but if anything add more epoxy. The gear will stay on, but on some not so perfect landings it will rip off... Not all have done this, and some have reported no problems.. but some have add tail wires My UCD has it.. And no problems to date besides my own errors:(..... Keep your control gaps tight and sealed and your control rods tight and with good mech. advantage... And remember this is a 3D not a speed plane:-)... Have fun:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Raid, since you are still out there...
What size spinner will i need for the 14x4w prop? I am ordering some from Tower since all the LHS around here suck. Might as well order a spinner too, and a new cowl. Also, can you put up a pick of your tail wires. How did you put them through the surface, The Somethin Extra used a drilled out dowel in the stabs to put the screws through. I think I am defintely going to put some on with the Magnum on there. I figure with the extra weight up front I may need some tail weight, it might as well serve a purpose. Plus i just reinforced the side under the tail with some thin balsa and epoxy because it was getting squishy. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
xoon, maybe you should just go with a engine that you dont need to do firewall mods, a saito 82 will mount right in the stock mount and is really plenty of power:D
CEEGEE, fly er on down and lets go flying, oct thru april is real nice, and we have a airport three miles from the house, then six miles to fly. you are talking about comming in a cessna or something similar? other than that its 160 miles to a real airport[X(]:D |

sctcrash... I use a Tru turn 2&1/4 wide blade spinner.. It fits perfect
On the tail wires.. As I said I got my UCD used and they were on.. The person I got it from said he just drilled C.A.ed the holes/wire through the hori. stab and used just a wire with a loop in it on the vert. stab.. He just made up a light medal piece with three hole in it for the bottom of the fuse then added the wires to the ends and crimped... But I was going to use the tail wire set from Towers when I started looking at it on tower's after Barry's price alert... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Remember the magnum instructions say to use 15% with castor, NOT synth. I ran it in for a few tanks grounded then started working the low end idle and it purrs now. I am hoping to post pics tomorrow of the new and I am not so sure improved color scheme. It's funky to be sure.

I haven't flown a 91 or anything like Gjeffers 100 rocket ship but I love the ride the 82 gives. Plenty of pull out power that's for sure......:D CEEGEE, fly er on down and lets go flying, oct thru april is real nice, and we have a airport three miles from the house, then six miles to fly. you are talking about comming in a cessna or something similar? other than that its 160 miles to a real airport[X(]:D Hey, I got my elevator put back together. Now I'll be able to sleep better tonight.......;) I hate it when my UCD's broke........[>:] Here's some pictures and a picture of the new hangar. Oh, I know it's a mess but we're still getting moved in. And that Bacardi box, that's just for moving stuff in...... really.[:-] |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
yea CEEGEE your right, if i had a new ucd and was buying a engine for it i would just buy a 82, buuuuuuutttttt i had a 100 and i liiiiikkkkkeeeee it, hehehehe:D must be the kid in me!!!!
and i never would have seen that evil box if you hadnt pointed it out to me, i had to scroll to find it after looking for a minute or two. i dont know if you read my earlier post but this plane sure does a nice knife spin, i know i know ill shut up:D maybe one day we can all get together at the salt flats in salt lake and fly[X(] that would be about half way between you and Ron:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
yeah. but i'm one mile up above sea level... so i got to take another notch on the engine up here.. so i mite just go w/ the 91 not the 100.. maybe a TT or a MAGNUM ... i don't know for sure.. i should do more research.. what do you guys think?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
xoon - I just bought the Manum 91 at tower. I really wanted the Saito 82 for the power to weight, but right now I just cant afford that much. Tower has the Magnum 91 for 169 right now, and you also get $25 off any order over $150. so its like 145 + shipping of i think 7.99.
At that price i decided to give the Magnum a try. I just got it last night and I cant believe I am putting an engine that big in this plane, I am too used the 40 La i flew with for 3 years. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
haha... let me know how it goes, because i'm looking at TT and Magnum engines for my U CAN DO
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I am planning on flying tomorrow so I am leaving in my OS 46 AX. So as long as I dont put the plane in another tree I will be strappingin the Magnum and breaking it in this week.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hello,
A hot knife is like a soldering iron that holds an xacto #11, or any blade for that matter, and makes it hot. You can cut plastic real well with this thing. Its one of my tools I use with my plastic models. When you get good with it you can make the rough cut on cowlings with it, then finnish up with the dremel tool. Cuts down on all of that dust. Hope this helps. SPUDs out..............see ya:D |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey CeeGee,
You can also use it with a lite grip to cut covering on ARFs, you know like when you have to expose the wood on the horiz stab. See Ya........Shawn |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Crash,
SPUD here-I took some lefy over push rod, a solder on thread, two nylon clevis's, and mashed some 1/16 brass tubing. Drill some 1/16 holes in the mashed tubing, bend a small angle in them, mount them to the horiz & vert stabs. Measure the rod & solder the threaded ends on. Mount the clevis's on. Snap the rods to the brass tabs you made. There you have it, made with stuff you probably already have lying on your bench. You only need it on the topside because it is rigid. Hope this helps. SPUDs out.........see ya.;) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
hey crash, you can get the tailwire kit from tower at bottom of page;)

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
i have decided to go for the MAGNUM 91. because it's light weight and MAGNUM has GREAT service! i will wait for the report from CrASH to make my decision final. as for the tail bracing, can someone here advice me more on that? what should i use? how should i do it? thanks a lot for your time

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Xoon,
Look above two posts. Thats how I did mine. Hope it helps. Shawn |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
XOON - You should really like the 91 in your UCD. I have an OS 91 in mine, with a 15X4W and just love it. Theres 4 UCD 46's at our club with this combo, or close to it and we're all having a ball.
As far as the tailwires, follow gjeffers suggestion, it's a good one, you can't go wrong there. Remember, low and slow, these arn't made to go fast. Have Fun,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,, |
