RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey CeeGee.... Yeah we moved just a few times... But it was more
than I wanted to... I know what you mean about... about finding all the stuff you didn't know you had, and finding the right spot for them:(..... But from one of your previous post, I see that your shop looks good:) Yeah, I feel bad for my UCD... I did move it... I thought it glued it- self to the make shift table... But in all honesty, I did do some work on it... I lowered the tank somewhat after installing the engine mount:) The tank and Tk. saddle is ready to be glued in... etc. etc. etc.:-)))) Plus I used the old tank on my profile:-) I "plan" to re-epoxy the firewall... install the new 10oz tank and epoxy the tk. saddle in tonight.... Then work on making up a new landing gear block, the old one came out in half from where I strengthen it.. I think I'm going to screw on the sheet of bulsa that I cut out in the tank area???....... It really won't take too long if I ever get going on it, But as the Grand daughter said just before she went back home... That plane sure has been sitting there doing nothing since I've been here, You should fix it or move it.. Gramps:(.... This was after I asked her to crawl under the table to turn on the printer:-) But another hold up was me trying to learn how to sew up my old props now that there is no help on that:( And I'm still waiting on Gary to get in touch with some talking dog in hopes that he'll know... But thats after he's done watching some movie ...... In the mean time SERGIO is putting together all these planes... And you have no time because your getting the new place setup..... Geeees... No wonder I'm so slow.... No help... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I want to mount my Magnum 91 in today or tomorrow. Right now I only have the 40-70 Great Planes Mount that came with the UCD. It seems that I can mount the Magnum on it, but is that a bad idea. i am sure a 60-90 size mount will be stronger, but I will probably have to drill out the firewall for a different mount. Does anyone have a 91 on the mount that came with the plane?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
The stock mount is fine. It's holding up to Saito 100's.
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
no saito 100 unless you put the carb thru the firewall, i dont know about the mag though;)
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I got it in there, i took off the choke and it fit in, barely, but it fit. The manual said you dont need the choke if you use a started because it will prime itself. I do have the room to put it back on, but didnt want to deel with the cutting access for it through the cowl anyway. As long as the mount will handle the stress of the 91 I should be fine.
If I remember correctly there was a pretty good description somewhere in this thread about lowering the fuel tank. Does anyone remember where abouts it is. If not dont worry I will look through the thread for it. I believe it was atleast in the first 40 something pages. I just worry about cutting up the plane and messing it all up. What's the best way to break the existing glue so I can take it apart cleanly? |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
hey crash its on page 71@72, on how to open up the front fuse where the tank is;)
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
ORIGINAL: gjeffers no saito 100 unless you put the carb thru the firewall, i dont know about the mag though;) All I did was file the web off the mount. My carb wasn't through the firewall , prop drive hub was in stock location.;) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
hi prophangar, yea me and my son put his 91 on his and it worked but man it just didnt look sturdy enough for me to stand around and run it up, i guess im just a scardie cat, do you have some pics, id like to use mine for weight reduction, but it still looks like the carb screws would be right where the bottom left mount screw would be, thanks

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Crash,
SPUD here-I have the 91 OS 4C in mine with the stock mount & have had no problems. I originally had a 70 4C on there but went to the 91 with no problem. Same mount just had to drill two holes in the mount for the dif motor, not the fire wall. I grind the round nose wheel bosses off of the mount for clearance if the mount has them.............Hope this helps. SPUDs out.................see ya.:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks Spud, I'll definetely grind off those wheel bosses to give me a little room. I test mounted the engine and it all looks good, now I need to run a new throttle line.
How did everyone go about cutting out the cowl? I just got a new cowl and need to cut it up to match the new engine. When I cut the first one I wound up with a lot of fibreglass strands dangling from my cuts. I even got some cracking around a couple of the cuts. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Crash,
I get a folder cut some 2-3" wide strips. I tape them to the plane where a hole has to be in the cowling. Make your holes, then with the strips still on the plane mount your cowling(with the proper depth of course) then mark your holes on the cowl. I use a small pointed stone tip on my dremel tool to cut out the holes to my marks. I use 220 grit sand paper folded small and litely sand the edges from the inside to get rid of any strands and rough edges. If you want you can run a little CA on the inside to reseal the edges of glass(not necessary), and thats how its done in the mohawk hangar. Hope this helps.:D SPUDs out.........see ya:) |

The cowl will chip and crack and the files seemed to give me more control over that problem. Good luck and enjoy the UCD. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Great U Can Do Thread
Been flying for a year and a half. Looking forward to flying my U Can Do. Dumb question. Is there a book or reference on how to fly 3-d manuvers? I fly mostly alone and there is no one around to explain snap-rolls, flat-spins, ect. Doug |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)The first manever you'll want to learn is the "inverted flat spin landing" It's a once in a lifetime stunt.
Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
