RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Yep... That'll fix that gear...
Great morning...... Until[:@][:@] My S.T. tried to go through the fence[:@] I can tell you one thing.... The fence will win everytime.................. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
yea Ron, i did a poo poo also, had my monster on its way in for a landing and the wheel caught a chuck hole (i was also comming in a little hot and it bounced first[X(])and flipped forward and pole vaulted on the spinner and landed upside down on the top wing, man it sure looked awful but when i got over to it it came out a lot better than it looked like it should have, just a few scratches on the spinner, top wing and top of the rudder.......WHEW!!!!![&:]
ill be flying alot for the next 10 days:D:D:D:D:D.......took a week off[8D] |

Hey Gary... Good on the week off and flying:)...
It's on me[:@].. I do check all at the start of the morning, and this is the second time that my rudder servo screw backed off allowing the arm to slip off the gear..( never lost the screw tho on the HS5945mg, maybe I should trash it now...MMmmmm. I said then that I was going to check the screw every third flt. (I was on my fourth and not[:@]) I was lucky last time as I was slowed after landing and making my turn back to me when it slipped off, No loctite prior, but I added a "small" drop after.. I'm "coating" now:D Bad thing is if I did not keep trying the rudder, then on top of that looking at my radio to insure:eek::eek::eek::eek: I was moving the right stick(Super Dumb) and just kill the engine it would have been no problem....... AAhhhhh You got to love it........... And I'm thinking of one more thing[8D]... I told the members that I had a boo boo the last time, the weekend before our funfly... So I asked them, "What's going on!!" :D |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
The front of the airframe looks good from the photo. Is it just the engine mount and cowl that are damaged?? Also, try the paste style of the blue locktite. It's easier to apply and no mess. I always clean my screw and the threads in the servo with denatured alcohol and compressed air to make sure there are no oils on them before assembly.
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey AKFireMedic... Yeah that was all, just the engine mount, cowl and the spinner,
replacements should be heading my way in the AM.. Everything else looked great, tho I think it'll be OK, I have not ran the YS The blue liquid has been working great for me, but I just put a very small dot on the screw because I was unsure how to clean out the gear end if I had to remove... but it will have enough next time, and along with checking the screws at the start, I "am" for sure also going to recheck before every 2nd/3nd flt.. I did get some fuel in the bottom of the fuse because the tubing at the tk. nipple cracked and the YS pressure pushed it out, but it cleaned up pretty good with some foam carpet cleaner then baking soda along with some heat... |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Don't worry about cleanup of the locktite. Your worst enemy there is too much locktite and dripping it into places it shouldn't go. It only needs to be on the threads (obviously). This is where the paste really shines. It works like a glue stick and you simply rub the threads of the screw onto it and that's that. Any locktite that gets left in the female (or male for that matter) threads of your parts will re-activate when you thread in the next object with loctite on it. Just use compressed air to blow the loose powder off and you are GTG again.:D I come from a custom/ race car background BTW so I have used gallons of the stuff. Here is a link to the Loctite site. THe #248 blue stick is the one I use for all of my RC stuff.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
WoW! That blue tube of locktite looks like the stuff to get. Only thing is I would probably get it mixed up with my Chapstick and lock up my lips. My wife would love that......[>:]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
yea Rob..... just reverse that .........and..........and........your gonna get me killed:)
does look like good stuff AK, should have a lot of other applications also, Thanks;) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Thanks for the link AKFireMedic, I think I seen some of it at our hardware store.. I
may give it a try. I've worked with a lot of tightners, and do pretty good with it not going where it shouldn't, and on the other end just wipe her clean.. Thanks again |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Nice plane Gary! Very nice! [8D] I haven't been able to fly myself. It's been monsooning here and flooding. Yikes! [>:] But you should see my inverted flying now Gary! Lookin' good........:D

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Yes, Gjeffers...That is a nice looking airplane. Is that that $99 special? Man, what a buy if it is. What is your weight?
Our flying season here is coming to a close very quickly. I went out Thursday afternoon and did 3 flights with my UCD60. Had a great time. But the weather was less than perfect. About 40 degrees and the wind was about 10 MPH. Flying is pretty good but my poor hands get so cold it just isn't enjoyable. Last night it snowed, only a skiff, but just a sign of things to come. My guess is we'll get maybe one or two "acceptable" flying days and then it'll be over for another year. I'm sad to see that happen. I've only flown barely 1/2 as much as I did last year. I've built quite a few planes and haven't really flew any of them "enough". What I have flown has been very enjoyable though. Lots of fun this hobby. And such nice people, mostly. My biggest accomplishment for the year, AirWild Extra 260 29%. My biggest disappointment, Giant UCD. I've only flown the UCD 5 times but it just doesn't seem to do what I want. I think it just needs more horsepower but it doesn't seem built heavy enough for a decent gas engine. Right now it seems as a Hanger Queen in my basement. Maybe that new rumored YS170 will revive it. That does sound interesting. 2006 I broke into the gas planes with the GP CAP 27% and the AirWild. I do like the gas planes but they seem to worry me more when flying. Probably just the extra money. (Pun intended, AirWild extra?) Ha Ha. But when I really want to "huck" it I fall back to the UCDs. I even tried a profile this year. Fusion by OMP. I like it a lot but it is very similar to the UCD60. Maybe a bit more sturdy and does Harriers better but the other stuff the UCD does just as good. My Velox, new for 2006, is one of the best flying planes out there. I love the way it KE. Almost perfectly with absolutely no input with the elevator. It's a very neat airplane and flys good precision stuff along with 3D. It's an underrated plane for sure. In 2006 I improved my fllying skills greatly. I've even got where I can hover very close to the ground. KE is my biggest improvement with the ability to do them the full length of the runway in either direction and with my CAP within 5' of the ground. Velox under 10'. My rolling maneuvers are much more precise and I've gained more confidence. I've had 2 total destructive crashes, Fusion and Mayhem 40. But that's my best year yet. The Mayhem was an engine failure at the most inopertune time and the Fusion was just dumb flying on my part. A hugh wind slap when doing flat spins too close to the ground. I'm deeper into the hobby even though I flew less this year. I hope I can curtail my plane purchases next year. I have a GP Ultimate Biplane on the way for my winter project. It will be a gas plane. It's my only planned plane for the winter. I busted into the high dollar radio market with a 12Z. I love the radio even though the first one was faulty. It's now repaired and I'll keep it as a spare. So I think my radio purchase are set for a few years. I've learned much, my skills are improving and I've enjoyed the time on this thread and others. Overall I'll say 2006 is a radio controlled success for me. But somehow I want to fly more. The off months bring rusty fingers and an unstable mind. I'm glad I've got these forums to keep me attached. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
glad you guys are still out there and having fun, and yes Barry... that is my $99 plane, what a great deal, now its back to Utah tomorrow and maybe ill see some of that cold and snow[:o]
later guys!!:) |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Gary the plane looks great. I am going to start assembling mine tomorrow or Tues. It was a great deal at $99.
I got a few flights on the UCD this weekend and might be able to squeeze a few in tomorrow too. Weather here has been way too good for the past couple of weeks. |

Hey Barry, Great report. Glad you had some good flying this year. Sorry the Giant was such a disappointment for you.
I had a great year with lots of new experience. Our flying field is open again after a 3 month shut down. We've made some positive changes so it's better now. Now all we need is some good weather again. Here's some pics. of my newest plane. It's a Fliton Extra 330 Freestyle. Flies like a dream and is wayyyyy better than the no-funtana that I had. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
nice plane Rob!!! i always wanted a fliton but there are sooooo mannnny, but ill get there someday and own all of them(after Barry gives me the flight reports on them all:D)
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Yeah, It's a sweet plane. But as mentioned the weather hasn't been good enough to fly lately. I'm getting bummed waiting but have been doing lots of practicing on the sim.
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Rclement...
That is one sweet looking airplane. What size is that? Saito 125? Weight? Flying characteristics? 3D? Inverted? Flat Spin Landing? I've heard Fliton takes more time to build and is more difficult to build. What do you think? It certainly is a beautiful plane. I love the way it looks. Thanks Barry |

Hi Barry, It's a about a 6 1/2 lb plane (40 size) so I have a Saito 91 in it. I've only flown it about 6 times so I'm not familiar with the characteristics of it yet but it seems to KE real well and has a real nice feel to it in the air. It doesn't feel like it's going to get out of control like the Funtana did. It flies inverted just fine and only takes just a little down to hold it. The Flitons are a little bit more difficult to build because the instructions aren't very good but for anyone with some building experience it's not a problem. Nice thing about them too is that the tail feathers are all airfoiled, very nice looking. They are very well built, well thought out. They have a wing tube and are set up just like the larger type IMAC planes. Here's another pic of someone elses plane.........

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Winds 0 to 5 Mph and nobody at the field. I flew all the Gas I had. Wish I stopped off and bought some before I went out. The UCD is a fun fun plane. I am still amazed at how nice and slow it comes in for a landing. I am getting spoiled. I am sure I will start to scare myself with low inverted fly bys. I am already lower than I ever thought I would be.
I will probably try to land the Super Star the same as the UCD and bury it in the asphalt after all these slow landings. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
low inverted fly bys...... you're not suppose to do those. Just ask Gary. [>:]
Glad you could get out and fly your Do! They are a blast to fly. I might get a chance to fly mine tomorrow. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hey Gary... Very nice superstar... Yep... Great price. I almost got one, but did not want
to put out for another engine that I did not have already.... I really want to go to gas... Rob.. Very nice!!! My "Do" is doing great.. About 3" of my ant wire came off??? not sure how that happened .... Maybe my taping to the wing.... Got my S.T back up, even tried the SFG... Not to bad... But I did have some Ail. glitches??????? I just went through all for the AM... Man, I put a new plug in... and WoW what a difference.. Anyone have a set sch. on replacement of glow plugs???? I also went to the Lake havasu float fly this weekend, it was a good outting, there was this one scale model that someone said he spent 10yrs building... Very nice model built to scale of the China Clipper it had about a 15' wing span weight about 50#s powered be 4 hi torg. elect. motors with var. pitched 3 bladed props.... Very detailed and nice, it even had a guy sitting on the head reading a newspaper..... All the do-dads of scale models.... Anyway he was going to have this other pilot take her off on her maiden and once up, the builder was going to fly her with this seat/control with steering yoke and foot pedals setup etc..... Quite impressive... They were thinking of about a 8-10min flt... Well unfortunately, the flt lasted only about 5 seconds:-( after liftoff.... Not much damage, the wing was cracked, not sure what was done to the elec. motors, lipo bats after laying in the water, but other than that not much more damage... But now they were saying that they will repair her, but maybe after find somewhere to show her instead of trying to fly her again...... B Good People |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I took the UCD EP Flex out this evening for 10 minutes. It's not the same but it is time on the sticks. I wanted to fly it around the neighborhood but my wife made me go to the park. At least it was up in the air.:D

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Torque Roll, Torque Roll! Man I had lots of fun with the Do yesterday and even got it torque rolling. Them Do's sure are fun to fly. No engine problem either. Very good day of flying.........[8D]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hello. I have a flight report. Did the maiden 2 days ago. I have been on this site for almost a year now, and have just gotten my do in the air. I spend summers in Canada, and several weeks in the winter in Florida. I finished putting my do together last spring in Florida, but ran out of time to get it in the air. So it sat here in Florida all summer waiting for it's maiden flight now. It's a 40 with the Saito 82, and the recommended Futaba servos and a 4W x 14 prop. Cg at 4 3/8" I am always nervous about a maiden on a new type of plane, because I have had some terrible experiences, so a more experienced flyer at our field offered to do the first take off. Perfect. Minor trim required. He handed it over to me after a few minutes.
Am I ever impressed!. This thing flys like it's on rails!!! a charm. Rock steady, smooth, nice loops, very predictable rolls. Little up required inverted. I intentionally used small throws on all the control services for the first flight, so we quickly added some more. Wow. This think almost touches it's tail on loops!! So we started to do some stall spins, and got a flame out. Perfect dead stick landing on my 2nd flight. We think we just needed to set the idle a few clicks higher. No flame outs since in the next 6 flights. It was windy here yesterday, so I spent some bench time with her. Set all the throws to the recommended amount. Once she goes up again then I will start moving the CG rearward. I am thinking to get her back to 4 3/4" next, and see if I can learn to hover. I have several hundred flights on a Twist 40, and I was in love with them. Now I have a new best friend. Thanks to all on this site that have helped me in the build. May not remember some of my questions because they were last Winter/Spring. This do lands so slow, and gentle. Even better than the Twist. Any suggestions at to what is a good CG for houvering? Any suggestions to make the throws bigger than the owners manual suggests? Thanks Jim Tucker in Clearwater Florida |
