Man those are neat, NEAT airplanes. I didn't know you owned all those. That's cool.

Thanks
Barry
I WISH I owned any of these planes! These are from the Fly-in we had on the week-end before last. But I'll be happy to entertain the thought! Heck, maybe I'll get lucky!

RCLEMENT, what size o-ring should I get for the V. stack to seal off to the carb? Or should I use tubing so I don't place a vortex in the path by having the grooves from the round o-ring in the pathway. I would hope that a well mashed o-ring might not place too much turbulence in the throat of the set-up but then I know how these things can be.

I also found that after a gallon of fuel was run in the Saito 82 that the valves were in bad need of tightening up. The gap was massive! After resetting the gap it is running like a top at above 2k RPM. I am ready to start leaning the LS screw. I am thrilled with the HS setting and the revs are happy between 2 and 9k (it will go to 10+K but I won't let it for more than a second or two) Now to get the idle and transition right. I think a 1/4 turn toward lean or so of LS screw will fix me right up! I'm just about ready to hang it on the UCD! Will wait for some less hot weather to maiden in. (106 heat index for the last 2 weeks)

streetrodder... The tank I had in my first "used" "Do" 46 had a sullivan 8oz tk. in it, the
owner I got it from "said" it was the stock tank that came with the plane??.. On my new
"Do" # 2 it came with a 270cc tk. = 9.1325 oz.... I replaced it with the 10oz tank below
that I had..... I get an easy 15mins with some fuel left in the tk... I did have to trim a
little to get it to fit....

:)Blisster...

1/4 turn is a good place to start on the low speed jet. But, I'm pretty sure you'll end up going twice that far or more to get it finally adjusted right.

Thanks

Hey Bliss.... Great pics!!!

Ditto on the great people!!!

Ditto on the wrinked covering... Heat gun wipes them all out... And to my surprize it
stays out even in the heat changes here in AZ... The Hot land [sm=sunsmiley.gif]...

Wanted to repair my new spare wing, well guess I still can, but I can't seem to find
where I put the belly pan[:@]..... Man the past 58yrs has taken it's toll............

Oh Man! A lot of new posts here in the past day or two. WoW! As far as the o-ring, ahhhh..... I dont' remember. I just used my calipers to find out about how big of one I needed and picked up one at the hardware store.

Sorry, I can't come. First thing I don't have any thing that big that's ready to fly. Second...it's a long way away.

Thanks for the invitation though.

Barry

PS: If you ever come to Yellowstone Park...look me up, I only live 90 miles from there. I could give you a plane to fly and good conversation.

I have the 270 cc in mine I'm going to try it and see what I'll get for run time.I don't see making any mods to get a extra oz.Thanks for the info.As far as the satio what are we spinning for a prop 14x4w or 13x4w?

Barry Cazier 08-09-2006 12:05 AM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)streetrodder....

I use the 14x4W APC prop. (Saito 82) Even at my elevation the Saito will spin it close to or above 10K. Rarely do I spin it that fast though. The 13x4W is not enough prop. It gives very good performance.

thanks
Barry

:)Gjeffers...

Sorry we won't be hearing from you for a while. Hopefully you can dorp in once and a while.

I hope your new job assignment is a good one. Ogden, Utah. That's about 150 miles from me. I go there frequently. There's a great little hobby shop in Logan, Utah. Not that far away, if you get a chance. (Earls' RC) They are closed on Wednesday though. Seems that the day I pass through there mostly.

Thanks
Barry

:)I'm getting pretty close to done on my Great Planes CAP 232 27% gasser. I hope to maiden it this Saturday. I hope. If I don't like the way it flys, I'll put the engine on my Giant. I might anyways. I want to get that thing back up in the air with more power. The EVO 45GX may be just the ticket.

Thanks
Barry

Sorry you're not going to be around Gary........[:o] We'll have to hold down the fort without you........somehow[&o]

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

streetrodder, I hear you on the tank...
It only takes a few min... Just a little trimming on the sides of the tk. saddle sides
and a shade more on the entry way to get the tk in the compartment. Other than
that, it fits perfect...

38.... Wish I could!!! But can't make it... If your ever in the Bullhead, AZ / Laughin
NV. / Needles, CA. area Come on by.......

Bliss... Don't know the size either .... But I used the old o ring from the intake
tube off of the S-100.. It worked, No performance change, Takes a bit longer before
it gets as messy, and I did get to lean it more, so I "guess" a bit longer flt. times...

Gary.... B Safe, .... keep it below 100......... That statement reminds me when I was
driving back here from a Raider game... I'm not saying I drive in the upper ranges
but I was cruising at about 110, and I was just slowly gaining on this rig...(2) I did
pass them, but after a "few" miles I slowed to about 95 ( after seeing one of those
speed limiters.. well went down to 70 [8D], he just gave me that, I'm gonna get you
look... No NO.. You haven't for 10yrs., don't start again now [8D] ) Anyway after
awhile in the rear view I see these rigs coming again then all "eight (8 )" passed
me... So I took up the rear of the convoy @ a little over 100, figured I was pretty
safe from those smokies.. then took them all on the hill............. Sorry bout that,
just a flash back....

Was getting ready to go fly... But... 97 @ 5 am..... Humidity 34%.... Normally below
10%.... You know with the low humidity, the 90-105 temp feel about the same as the
85+ temps in CA......... But then for 3 months, all he_ _ breaks loose.... Then when
the temps gets below 50 I'm dressed like I'm skiing ( hate that)
So.... I'm on the net, and sim... B Good people..... Dang I should have gone flying...

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Gary,

We'll sure miss you around here, but then maybe now we can make up some stories about you!:) We'll juat have to make do I guess! You take it safe out there and wave at my cousins who you'll likely be passing out there. (They drive meter proving trucks to many well sites up there in that area.) Too bad you can't throw an eletric foamy in the cab so you could get some stick time now and then. At least you'll be able to pay for more r/c stuff, right? That's all that's important.

I found an o-ring for the v-stack, actually I bought two and had to modify one slightly to get it to fit right. Turns out that the groove machined into the top of the carb throat isn't a typical size. I had to do some convincing on mine and it wasn't as easy as I expected. It does work and is cleanier running without a doubt. Leaned it a bit more and running time is up, too. Also got the low speed jet adjusted right. WOW, what runner this Saito 82 is! Thanks all, for the assistance you guys (as usual) and I'll be flying this weekend I hope. We cooled off a few degrees. Only 100 degree heat index now and the burn ban is back on![>:] Now I can't grill out! Darn!

Can't grill my burgers!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Update - So I have nearly completed adding all of the new CF pushrods and when I decided to test fit the engine, I ran into a fit problem of sorts. It seems that the fuel dot that I used per the GP directions is in the way of the throttle on the Saito so I'll have to move it. Also, I noticed on the engine that I have three-brass-fittings and I cannot figure what the third one is for. I have the typical ones for the fuel pickup into the carb, the one for the tank pressure on the muffler but the third is located on the underside about an inch behind the prop.

Any thoughts as to what this is?

Thanks,

Mark

Hi Mark,

The fitting you are wondering about is a crankcase breather. You put a piece of hose on it about 4 inches or so long at it is only for draining off stray oil from the motor. With the inverted mounting of the Saito in the UCD, you may also lengthen it, tying it to your landing gear so that it carries away the oil and drops it out of harms way. Don't leave it unhosed but at the same time, don't cap it off either, the oil has to go somewhere.

Has anyone tried the UCD 46 with the Super Tigre 61 or the UCD 61 with the Super Tigre 90??
How did it work??
Thanks

BradSD 08-10-2006 02:37 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Trombolo,
I am about 60% finished with mine (UCD .46) and I plan to put the ST G-90 in the plane. I am going to try a 15 * 4W prop and some serious throttle management. When I get finished I will post my thoughts on the set up. Might be a week or so however due to work constraints.
Later,
Brad
