RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)patnjimtucker...
If the engine is the 2 stroke OS91FX I'd fly the twist with a APC 15x6 or APC 16x4W. If it's the Surpass OS91 4 stroke, I'd go with either a 14x6 or 15x4W. I've flown the 2 stroke but not the 4 stroke. So...these are just my best guess. Thanks Barry |

I've been kinda eyeballing the new Twist. I might try one of those. I'd appreciate a message back about how you like yours. Do you have a UCD? Can you make a comparison? Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Hi Barry. Thanks for your comments. Will try the 16 X 4W to start. I have a UCD 46 with the Saito 82 on it, but I have not flown it yet. I live in summer in Canada, and winter in Florida. The UCD is in Florida and I ran out of time last Spring. Built the plane but did not get to fly it. Will go back at it this November.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
The new Twist 60 is very impressive. I think they fixed all the little things wrong witht the Twist 40. The fit and finish is excellent. The Wing comes as 1 piece and the ailerons are already attached. The horns on the ailerons are attached. The linkage between the servo and horn is precut, and comes with all hardware attached. the wing has a fish string in it so that you can install the servo leads very easily. The tail section, rudder and elevator, is prehinged, and it bolts on with 3 long bolts and locknuts. The tail wheel bracket is preinstalled. The landing gear has the wheels and axles, preinstalled, all you do is put 3 bolts into blind nuts to complete the landing gear. It is precut to accomodate glow or electric. All the hardware is precut, and ready to go. They even provide a piece of foam rubber precut to accomodate the battery and receiver. There is a hatch cut in the top of the fuel bay that is held in place with magnets to allow for electric batteries or access to fuel tank. Fuel tank installs in it's own rack and is held in place with 2 elastic bands. Takes 2 minutes to install the fuel tank. I am just getting ready to install the engine, and see how the CG will be. I hope to have it in the air in the next week or so. I would think that the assembley time is now less than 40% of the previous one!!! All the hardware appears to be SAE. The previous Twist 40 seemed to have a mixture of SAE, and Metric. When I picked it up at the LHS all the guys were impressed with the apparent quality. I just hope it flys well. Will send a report when it gets airborne. Jim Tucker

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)Wow...
That's pretty impressive the way they've hung the elevators, rudder, and ailerons. That would speed assembly a lot. Sounds like a very interesting plane. Thanks Barry PS: I can't believe you have a UCD that you haven't flown yet. Amazing. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Update – Well, I am finally in the last stretch of the build. So far I have resolved the throttle linkage issue, thanks again to everyone for their help, and completed the fuel tank install. I found some adhesive backed foam @ Michael’s Crafts yesterday and that stuff worked great. It’s made of the same type of foam that Hanger 9 includes with their ARFs. Then I was able to lock it in place with the balsa/ply piece that they provide. I also mounted the battery and now have all the servos in place and ready to hook-up to the receiver. I still have to epoxy the homemade fuel filler bracket and the lower block for the cowl to connect to but that is a minor detail and can be completed later.
Tonight, I’m hoping to get the servos centered, CG balanced and fuel line runs completed. I’ll then work on programming the radio and with a little luck she’ll be ready to break-in and possibly fly this weekend. Cheers, Mark |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Just bought a UCD3d as well as a Saito .82 to put in it. What is the best prop to use with the .82? Looking for a prop that has good vertical climb and doesn't guzzle the gas...

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)N224DW...
Welcome to the UCD thread. APC 14x4W is the best prop for the Saito 82 and the UCD. Thanks Barry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Mark... Great job... Let us know how all goes... It's good to balance laterally
also... I normally install most/all my tks with silicon at the firewall... It holds the tank good and seals the opening and its easily(sort of) removable... N224DW.... Ditto on the prop....... Hoping for no/low wind for the A.M..... Maybe cooler temps too, But I think its just wishful think so far....... Leaving the "Do" home[:@]... I still can't find my spare belly pan, and I'm getting a bit chicken on the extra noise..... I know I threw out a few boxes..... I hope it was not in one of them[:@].... I know I'm losing what ever brain I had.... But............... |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)gjeffers...
Glad you're safe for another week. I'm sure your grand daughter knows what she's talking about. I'm excited to get the new gasser in the air. I'm really not sure I'll like it any better, or as well. I just felt like I had to try it. But man, I have such a good time flying what I have I don't see how it could get much better. Anyways...Hope you have a great week end. Thanks BArry |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)I've got the 46 on the charger. Going flying in the morning. Been a while since I've been out. I'm looking forward to it.
My luck, it'll be windy, but I still think I'm going. Thanks Barry |

ORIGINAL: Barry Cazier :)rclement... Thanks for the confidence. Sometimes it's hard to get those dollar signs out of your head though. thanks Barry i had a expert pilot fly my first gasser(linear edge 540 87") but that was 3 months ago anyway the money is lost when you buy the plane not when you crash it 38 |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
:)38...
That's an excellent point. The money is spent, just enjoy and fly it. If you crash it, decide wheither to spend the money again or not. Thanks Barry |
