RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Anyone besides me notice they pinned the landing gear block in on the 46? Other than a few wrinkles in the covering, this 46 is as good as the first run 60's. I too am planning on using a Saito 100. The 46 with the 100 will be like the 60 sould have been....

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I don't. The Saito and the OS .70 weigh the same so more power with no weight penalty.
You can never have too much power when dealing with vertical 3D......just my opinion. Pugs |

I think I am going to stick with mounting it the normal way. I will be running a YS 63 so tank position is not a problem.

WHAT A NICE PLANE :p , got my Saito 72 waiting to go in, HS 605's all the way around, was going to go with the HS225BB mighty minis, but got a great deal on 605's :D
Will fly it this weekend! :D :D :D |

Hey!! Lets see a picture of that thing?! :D
Originally posted by earl williams Everything assembled and ready to fly with saito 100:6lbs even. Hope to get Saturday an fly it. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Does anyone have a flight report yet. specifically, how does it flat spin upright and inverted, Does it do a fairly crisp snap roll. How does it hariier, Does it do a tight waterfall? Can you get a slow high alpha knife edge out of it.

U CAN DO 46 with Irvine 53 and battery as far forward as i can get it still needed 3 oz spinner weight plus 8oz of lead to balance

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
on RCU about using a Saito 100......didn't look like there was a balance problem. I will be using the same set up.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Ok HELP I am so puzzled on what to put in this thing with a saito 80 be overkill or just a lill overpowered and would an o.s. 61 fx fit in the ucd 46 bc i think a 50 is to small???????

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Tuff question. The answer is....it depends. Most people are pefectly happy running the suggested motor. Others feel the need to over power the plane. It all depends on what you plan on doing with the plane, and your flying experience. I plan on using a Saito 100 because it is the same weight as a OS .70 (engine used in the manual), I tend to fly heavy 3D, and I know how to use the left stick. Your mileage may very.
Some on here will say the Saito 100 is way over kill. That is their opinion and good for them. I on the other hand don't really care what others think or say. I have the 100 on hand, and I will be using it. There is already one report that the 100 is awesome on this air frame. I had the 100 on the big UCD and I thought it was lacking in power a tad. But, as I said, that is my opinion. Now, to your question, I think the 80 is a bit more weight than the 100 due to the older design. I may be wrong, but if I had a choice between the 80 and the 61 FX, I'd go 61 FX. That once again is my opinion. Take care...... Pugs |

pugsley my thoughs agree with yours.......

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I'd like to find out from more owners of this plane which motors are causing the plane to be nose or tail heavy. That is one guideline which will help determine how big to go. If it needs nose weight I'd rather have the weight with an engine that gives reserve power instead of just lead.
If it is nose heavy instead, I would go with a lighter motor and smaller servos which could save 8-10 oz and the smaller motor might be ok considering the weight savings of the smaller radio/motor combo. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Also what are the weights that your ending up with, im just wandering whats the smallest engine you can use an still get good performance.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I got the email from Tower today. She's on the way!!! :D
I'm going with my OS 70 four stroke that has no home at the moment. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I just got word from somebody who finished up their UCD46 that with a 50sx the plane balances at about 5.5" with the battery all the way forward. This is the rearward recommended CG from what I understand (my manual isn't handy so can't double check that figure). This means you can put a heavier motor in this without worrying much about having to add tail weight. With the OS 70 around 20 oz w/muffler that should be ok for balance but would like to hear if anybody has tried one yet.
I'm waiting on some items to finish up my review on this for the magazine...I'll try to finish it up asap with as much detail as I can. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I picked one up yesterday and I got it finished this evening. I used a saito 100 and five HS5625's. I know the servo's are overkill but I just happened to have them besides they are well used anyway.
With the battery behind the fuel tank it balances right at 5 1/8. All up weight w/o fuel is 6lbs 4oz. You could save weight with lighter servos and battery pack. I used a 1700mah sub-c. I played around in the yard with it and the tail gets light pretty quick. Might get to fly tomorrow. |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
Ok...seems the 5-5.5lb target in the specs it tought to hit. 6lb range seems more likely.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I should be ordering one in the next week or so. Plan on using a MVVS 45 on it, any one have any thoughts on power and balance?

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
He had a 5 cell high capacity nicad up front to get a little extra weight up there. I think it was around the capacity you intend to use (approx 1500mah give or take).
