RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
before you start ant serious 3D flying with the .46 size, brace up the tail right behind the servo tray. We had a guy at the field down here that had his tail just explode into a million pieces!

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
The 60 size is better... or go with the funtana 40 size 3d... much better design...

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I was trying to mount my YS 63 to the UCD. The manual says the back of the spinner needs to be 5" from the firewall. The most I can get with engine all the way out on the mount is 4 1/2 ". Anybody had this problem? Or did you set yours up differently?
|
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
After re-measuring, I don't think it is going to be a problem. It is 4 7/8".

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I think one person also asked if this would be a good second plane with a 46 in it. I believe the plan was to move this engine from a trainer to a 3D plane? A Saito 100, while fun for an experienced pilot would be a waste in this airframe for a second plane in that it likely wouldn't last very long. To answer the the question. No, this would not be a good second plane with the 46 in it, or any other engine for that matter. I would sugest a low wing sport plane such as a Kaos or sportster type thing for your 46. Still lots of fun but much better suited for a second plane.

I was all excited when the box was delivered untill I got to the wing. Looks like someone smacked it against a poll and then packed it. No damage to the outside of box. What luck!

Ouch, getting a new one shouldn't be too hard with GP though.

I bought it from a shop in Texas. He is going to get me a new one, But it has to be shipped to him first then shipped to me. Could take up to 3 weeks. Bummer! I took the covering off the top so I could check out the damage. Pretty nasty!

I'll start putting the rest of the plane together while waiting for a good wing to arrive! Pretty nice plane, Other than the damage.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
... got my UCD 46 last week, now she's ready to go, but in Massachusetts, the rain, she's a comin' That maiden flight is set back a few days, for sure.
Good points? This is a BIG plane! A lot bigger than a Somethin' Extra! (and lower cost!) Very complete. With the one piece wing, preinstalled blind nuts for the engine mount and wing, predrilled holes in the wing for mounting, a nice fiberglass cowl and wheel pants, this is a VERY quick building plane. Good quality hardware too. Socket head screws for the control horns? Yipee! Bad points? Tiny little landing gear mounting plate. Wing mounting screws sunk way down in the belly pan, hard to deal with. Very little meat between the heavy front of the fuse and the long tail. There's gonna be a lot of structural issues here. Fragile fuse, hard to pick up and hard to install the wing at the field without causing some damage. They suggest a 0.46 or 0.50 two stroke? No way! I put in an OS 61 FX and she's still tail heavy. Put the biggest battery I had right behind the fuel tank, and my CG is 5" behind LE. (4.5 inches suggested). Weight? an astonishing 6 lbs, 12 ounces! Without fueling valve, cowl or wheel pants! Ouch! What did I do wrong? All rigged out and with full fuel this things gonna top eight pounds! You guys with the 91 four strokes have the right idea. Is this thing gonna hover with a 61FX? I doubt it... |

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
To Earl Williams,
Earl, are you using the 2" alumimum spinner as the size specified? If so are you able to cut the prop holes for your APC 15x4wide in such a small spinner? What brand spinner are you using? Also how did you deal with the specified servo reversing for one of the elevator servos? What part did you use or did you modify to avoid this? Are you using a pump with your Saito? I agree with you that set up correctly over powering is not a bad thing. I am flying a 6 pound Sportster with a Saito .91 and it just feels right. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
This thread is starting to depress me. I ordered a UCANDO 3D 46 with the idea of using a YS 63 or 50SX which I have on hand, but it appears this one tail-heavy bird and will require lead or a bigger engine.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I just got back from the first day of flying the UCD 46. I have a YS 63 turning a 13x6 APC prop. CG is about 5 1/2" back. The YS has plenty of power for flying around, it will hover and pull out but not with authority. Straight and level full power the ailerons would start to flutter, I think I will go with 4x40 hardware for these. Also I have not sealed the ailerons.
Knife edge required a little aileron. The engine needs more right thrust. With the current setup I could not get the plane to flat spin either upright or inverted. Landings are very nice and slow. Overall it is a nice flying airplane. More thurst would be nice but not more speed. I think I will try some different props. The plane does not fly tail heavy at this CG. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
I think you need a lower pitch prop on the YS 63 for this plane. Let us know how it goes. See the thread below for alot of info on props for the YS 63

RCadmin,
Thanks for the thread. I think I will try both the 13x4w and the 14x4w. |
RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
For the guys who have been out flying the .46 what is the best engine size? I was planning on a YS 63, but now I'm a bit worried also. Marc, I believe you were going to use a YS 63...any data to report???

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
FLEW IT AGIAN TODAY 20+ FLIGHTS AND IT IS A GREAT COMBO ALTHOUGH SOME WHO HAVE NOT FLOWN IT THEORIZE THAT IT IS TOO MUCH POWER, BUT MY EXPERIENCE SAYS IT IS JUST RIGHT. THIS IS A GOOOD SIZE AIRPLANE - MORE LIKE A 60 THAN A 46 SIZE.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?
For the people that used the Saito 100 in their UCANDO 46. Does it fit ok in the cowling? it looks like it is the same size as the Saito .91 and .80. it makes perfect sense to use the 100 as you get a ton of more power at no weight expense. I am going to order it from tower and use a Saito 100 in it.

I AM USING A TRUE TURN 2 1/2" SPINNER. I AN ABLE TO PROGRAM MY ELEVATOR SERVOS ON A MIX IN MY JR 8103 RADIO.
