Just finished mine up, specs are...

OS 50SX
R148DP
S3001 on Ailerons, Elevators
HS-81MG on Throttle
HS-5625 Rudder
6V 1450 Battery
4-40 hardware


All up weight is 6 lbs 1 oz (I am a little surprised), thought it would come in around 5 lbs 12 oz.

CG with battery under tank and receiver up against forward bulkhead is 5 inches.

Looks like with this thing could be sub 6 lbs easy with lighter servos and battery. Hope the 50SX gives ok vertical.

Plan on flying tomorrow, will post results.

don't feel bad...I did that on a Magic Pattern plane when I was like 12 years old. Forgot to check it and punched it right in on takeoff. Webra 61 speed, retracts, fiberglass fuse all totalled...6 months of airbrushing the paint on the fuse over an entire winter gone to waste.

Yours doesn't look as bad as mine did. One thing I can guarantee you though after this. You will NEVER (AND I MEAN NEVER) make this mistake again. I check control direction on every flight ever since that crash in my younger days. It made a big impression on me (and in the field).

I MADE A MISTAKE - IT WIEGHS 6LBS 5OZ. FLEW A COUPLE OF TIMES TODAY BEFORE IT STARTED RAINING. STILL FLYS GREAT, EXCEPT FOR A BIT OF ALIERON ROLL ON KNIFE EDGES, AND A BIT NOSE HEAVY WITH BATTEWRY UNDER TANK. THAT SAITO 100 IS REALLY POWERFUL WITH A LITTLE OVER A GALLON THROUGH IT TURNING 10800 TODAY IN 95% HUMIDITY ON MAGNUM #1 FUEL.
THE EXTRA POWER IS NICE!

Saito 100 makes awesome power on this plane. Too bad my flight only lasted about seven minutes. Didn't get to enjoy long enough. No matter how good you think you are, you can never be ready for something like this.
I tried to reverse them on the radio while keeping it in the air but soon gave up on that. Decided to try and land and that ended in a knife edge loop, on the runway. The wingtips sure are tough but unfortunately the fuse broke completely in half behind the canopy.
This is what I get for slapping one together in a day and a half.

Put about 10 flights on my OS 50 powered U-Can.

This thing definitely needs a bit more power at my altitude (4500 feet), hovers were great but did not have a lot of pull out power. Was afraid to get to low due to this. Might need a touch more right thrust to get it perfect.

All and all I am impressed with how well this airplane flys. Rolls are much more axial then it's big brother, flat spins both upright and inverted very nice. Blenders are pretty cool as you can hear a neat whump sound from the wing when it pops into the spin. Harriers were pretty good with a touch of wing rock.

I would watch out for the horizontal stab as I noticed mine had come completely loose when I was cleaning it after flying. I am not sure if this happen in flight or on the ground during cleaning. Could use a bit of tri-stock or wires to keep it bonded.

Wish I had a camera today as my buddy had his 60 size and we had some fun hovering right next to each other, maybe next time.

What size prop did you use? I'm putting the 50sx in mine too, and the manual said they used a 14X6 apc. That seems a bit much for this engine... I only use a 13X6 apc on my CAP with an OS 70 4 stroke. I'd hate to burn up a new engine.

I noticed that there wasn't much gluing surface when I bonded the stab today. Maybe I can get some epoxy covered tri-stock through the el servo holes. Thanks for the heads up.

I saw the 14x6 statement in the manual as well, thought it was probably a misprint. I am using a 12.25x3.75, I get really good response and seems to pull pretty good.

I thought as I was gluing it that it did not look like a lot of surface to glue to. Thanks for the idea of the tri-stock through the elevator holes, looks like a good way of reinforcing the stab.

Anyone have a suggestion on props? I will be running a magnum xl .46 2 stroke. The engine is coming off of a plane I sold so it's already been through break in.

OK changed engines now have H&B 61 PDP IT weighs more than the Irvine 53 battery under fuel tank still have 3oz spinner weight balance at 51/2" i would like it closer to 5" i don't know how you guys are getting it to balance without that 3oz weight

Just FYI, if you want to install a bigger tank, the 12 oz. Sullivan RST (flexible rectangular) will fit in the tank compartment nicely.

If I buy this kit I'll be putting a Thunder Tiger .46Pro in it (coming out of my LT-40). I'm at 5,000 ft. OK combo for a first time low-winger?

I HAVE A SAITO 100 ON MINE SAME WIEGHT AS THE RECOMMENDED OS 70 AND IT IS NOT OVERPOWERED - IT IS NICE. YOU WILL FIND THAT THE .46 IS ONLY GOOD FOR SPORT FLYING, BUT YOU CA FORGET 3D. AND AT 5,000 FEET IT WILL BE SEVERLY LACKING. YOU WILL HAVE TO ALSO ADD NOSE WEIGHT TO GET IT TO BALANCE. WHY ADD NOSE WEIGHT WHEN YOU CAN INCREASE PERFORMANCE AND FUN WITH A BIGGER ENGINE. JUST MY OBSERVATIONS.

I too like to over power my planes a little! That's what they make throttles for! I plan on putting a Saito 91 in mine. Less weight than the OS 70, And more power! That's a no brainer! IMOP!

I just lefty the LHS after an hour of "fondling"a Saito 100 and Saito 72 I can't decide which one to use on my UCD.46.,so I left with both,(one will go back,the owner agreed)I will fly it this weekend and this is my last step.I just can't decide,I want excellent 3D,but don't want to be hovering right off idle.I perfer to be a little higher in the power band.But I also want good pull out authority.What should I do?Which prop is best for 3D on either engine.Should i just put the .46 I originally planned on?I should mention that I am already a decent 3d pilot,flying 35% Edge and 35% Cap.Thanks,

If you're at or near sea level, I'd go for the .72, it's lighter. Also, If I used that engine, I'd relocate the rudder servo to inside the fuse under the canopy with pull-pull cables. Just my .03
