RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Man Gjeffers- That could leave a mark. Hope your feeling OK.

CeeGee- The twist is sure a good looking airplane. Have fun

Sctcrash- I'm with the the 3004's guy's, use a 6V & you have plenty of torque. Let's all remember if you use longer arms on your servo side your effective torque goes down, they're rated at oz/in, so if you use a 1.5" arm your torque is reduced. I have the std arms, one hole up on the cont horn side, with the high rates at 120% and I'm getting 45 deg of travel.

An update on my UCD- While I was away at work the tower elfs delivered my spinner & props. Got them on today. Looks great with the alu spinner. I like wheel pants so with them left on I had to add 1oz behind my rud servo to balance. Oh well, with the 91 on there whats an oz.. Current wt. is 6lbs 4oz. thats with TRU turn, APC 15-4, 3004's, fut. 9 chan syn rec, 2100mah NiMh 6V, & the stock kit + OS 91 SurII.

Hey KoKo- I have the YAK 54f & the Tribute both from eflite- been flying the Tribute like crazy in the evenings, great plane- Haven't set up the YAK yet so can't comment on that as yet. But you can't go wrong with the Tribute- it's on its 8th life now [ hope it doesn't take after cats].

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

hey guys, i came up with an [sm=idea.gif]to maybe help to never let a mishap like mine happen again. im gonna put a large weak rubber band around the antenna and run it around the bottom of my tx and hook it around the throttle stick when starting and untill i get it on the runway, then when ready for taxi, i can remove it to fly. i have tested this and it would have prevented my plane from jumping at me and biting:D.
im also building a stop for my portable tarmack that goes on my tailgate. let me know what you guys think about the throttle control thing, bad or good. thanks

SPUD37 05-09-2005 06:25 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hey Gjeffers,
I think I'd keep the Tx handy & go with some kind of restraint for the plane. Or just get someone to hold the plane while you do the start & run-up. SPUDS 2 cents hope it helps.

SPUDS got one turning & one burning, what to do next? One last drag on the cig or just pull the handle? See ya.........................

Here's a holder that I made. It won't work for everyone but if you happen to set up on a bench made from 1 x 6's or similar it works perfect and only costs about 4 bucks to make. The back part goes down along the edge of the table and has a loop forward and under the table similar to the section that's on top of the table just not as long. I put a winged screw in the bottom part to secure it to the table.

Spud, i dont have anyone to fly with 90% of the time, i live out by Death valley(not to many people who fly, just one, me.)so i cant afford to accidently bump my throttle again.;) and i am building a restraint also, its just that i have bumped it before and it isnt gonna happen again, thanks Spud

Gary... I'd have to go with no on the trans:-(... You just need a good
restraint for the plane where ever you bench it.. But again that's just
my opinion.... I like your Sig.... I twitch when I see it....

CeeGee... Man that Twist sure looks shiny.... Great looking hold down!!
besides the green stuff... It looks wet... What's that:-)

Well I did not get to fly today:-(.. I did almost finish up on my profile..
Still waiting for the club to make the trip to Vegas to get my onboard

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hi guys, been out for a while. Flew the UCD on Sunday and as alwyas it is a fun thing. But...(and I know its a sacriledge to mention on this forum) I am getting tired of the no groove flying.

Although I love this plane, it really does not fly like I want. It's the airfoil, sorta thick. I want the plane to really make a smooth roll and fly..more like a plane. I have been looking into a YAK, or an Edge. But can I just say, stay content with the plane. It's a scary money pit world out there if you want to venture into the gas motor larger scale stuff. I know you already know that, just spilling my guts.

$550.00 for a motor is tough to swallow.. And thats the cheap one.

Fly straight and clear folks.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)Liberator, If you want a little better "pattern like" performance from this plane move the CG forward to about 4". I'm not saying it will fly like a pattern ship but it does help with the rolls and circles etc. It actually improves this stuff an awful lot. However, I haven't tired of the 3D stuff yet. If you are getting a little bored just bring it a little closer to the ground.

Prop wash...What kind are all you guys using?

thanks,
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

I think that I heard a ucando wimpering in the background! Yes the ucando is not a fast plane, but it will do all the stuff that a regular plane will do only slower. Even when it is not overpowered, it is a good flying plane. I am thinking about setting the rates very low and teaching my daughter to fly the plane. Slow and steady. Hard to get into trouble while you are up high. Except for the inverted flat spin landings.

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hey Gjeffers ,What ever happened to the 40 mule team? Must have alot of places to just set up and fly. Here in Miami/Homestead we're running out of places to fly. 8 more years and I retire, Tenn. has alot more fields to choose from. Good luck, and I'll remember the prop stops there.

Hey Liberator, SPUD here, If you want pattern get the GP CAP 580. This plane grooves like crazy, & for 199.00 you can't go wrong. Let the UCD do its 3D stuff.

I'm using car wax. [8D] It's kind of difficult to apply given that it's best to apply while the engine's running but it sure shines it up......[:-]

Hmmm Cap 580, THat might be very cool, I am going to go check it out. I want to eventually get into the 40% class, but finances are always the big issue. I love the UCD, its a great flying plane, I don't want anyone to think I am speaking any evil here ;)

I'm sure no-one on this thread thinks that. These guys all seem as tho they just love to fly. One things for sure, the cap will do all the pattern work you can finagle, & the UCD is a 3D wizard. Good luck. SPUD

WE LOVE TO FLY???[X(] I'll write this and I know there are many more with my "PROBLEM" You see the flags standing still at lunch..hhmm I wonder if I could fake sick and go fly. Wife has some chores for you to do ..you do them really early in the morning before the sun comes up or at night the night before a good flying session! I could go on but I'm sure you know what I'm talking about ..and if you don't welcome to R/C airplanes buy your trainer , learn to fly them you'll see!;)

Yea, even though we way up north there's still a lot of grass growers up here..........[:-]

I've found that when you apply wax to the spinning prop it tends to apply wax to the rest of the plane at the same time......[8D]

Any body else fly in the rain to clean off the grass clippings?

Barry Cazier 05-11-2005 10:19 AM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)Yeah, I do that to. If it rains hard enough it will even clean the slim off your airplane. I use a garbage sack to keep dry and have the radio inside with me to protect it. The only real problem is it's hard to see out with a garbage bag over your head.
Thanks,
Barry

That't why you should use the clear garbage bags......[8D]
What's really cool is to put your plane in a white garbage and fly it around. It tends to look like a ghost....... Great for halloween.

Man..... I'm learning so much Great tips here guy's... I have to thank ya'll
CeeGee your one up on Barry on that clear bag.... And I really like the
UCD boo hoo idea... Come to think of it, It can be used on a halloween..
say fun fly and the bag could be also filled with candy for a candy drop..
Barry, I thought I had a great idea on eliminating the fuel slime off of the
plane... I just did not fuel her up... But a problem came up on my engine
as it did not start??????????????

SPUD37 05-11-2005 03:12 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hey guys SPUD here, Flite 3,4,&5-just keep learning new things with this bird. Two great landings, a 10 sec. hover today. On flite 5 I was trying to get the coupling worked out, got little inverted tangle with the air kind of thing going on, then the ground was getting a little close, snapped the stick around hard when I heard a pop. Chopped pwr to idle nose dwn was 10' up flaired and I was down. On inspection found I had stripped a ail. servo. The emergency landing tore some of my wingtip covering easy repair..........Oh well have to try again another day.

Hey guys with the FUTABA 9C what % did you end up with on your ail & ele to get rid of your coupling?

I tried some turtle wax spray carnuba on the plane- cranked it up, spayed it on like CeeGee said, & woah not only the plane but also the truck mywifes car & all over the garage..........good stuff.

Barry Cazier 05-11-2005 03:42 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)Spud, What servo did you strip? Probably because you were maxed out on your throws. You should always leave a tiny bit left for safety sakes.
The UCD does some of the best knife edge couplings you can imagine. Why would you want to change it? But if you must, I use about 5% up elevator and 5% left aileron. This is a good starting point. I can't get it completely out. And many times I just fly it and use my skills to adjust. Normally about the time the plane is so far away I can't see it is when I gather it back in and get control of it.
I'll have to try the wax job. Sounds like a time saver. This is such a great thread. So many tips.
Oh, I was flying during my lunch hour today. My rudder came off. It was kind of an annoyance. Oh well, I'll pull out some glue tonight and make it better. But tommorrow I'll fly something else till my knees quit shaking.
Thanks,
Barry

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

Hey Barry, I'm using S3004's. I have the travel set at 120%. I just want to reduce the roll and pitch coupling to a point where I can manage it. Thanks for the %'s I'll try them the next time I'm out.

Shawn

Barry Cazier 05-11-2005 06:39 PM

RE: U-Can-Do 3d 46?

:)Spud, In my opionon the 3004 is not enough servo for the UCD. The manual recommends a minimum of 50oz torque. This servo doesn't do it at 4.8v and 6v it barely does. It's also a nylon gear servo. That is probably why you had an incident with the aileron servo. I actually blew two out before I upgraded. You can probably do it for a while but sooner or later I think you'll want to upgrade your servos or repair your plane. I use the HiTech servos, they aren't too expensive and the ones I use have metal gears. That solved the servo problems but not the crashing problems I seem to have. Although I must admit, I'm doing better this year. I've only flat spin landed one plane and I'm at about 60 flights.

Thanks,

Barry
