The best prop for your combo would probably be an apc 13x4 if you didn't already know. Have fun.

i have seen flips and they have the most awkward stall characterisitc ever, this I think is due to the wing tip shape. Power off they're a disaster.

Don't waste your money, get a 3Styla from RC World.

Yes, I am on the RC World Display Team, and will be flying them at Wings n Wheels, but I first flew one at Weston Park last weekend in our display slot, and no joke, it really does p!*s all over any other similar size 3d model i've flown

It is far superior to the Hype, which i'm informed is far superior to the flip. Needless to say, i'm well impressed.

No doubt you think I'm biased, but I recommend that before you buy your flip you watch the 3styla in action!

The Irvine will be a great combo, but use 12.5 X 3.75 APC prop. Strenthen the tail don't use the wire, I've used carbon rods. Peg the hinges, I used the Great Planes fibre, put extra on the Rudder. If flying from grass dump the spats. The book settings are LOW RATES. Fly one to get hooked.

13x4 on the Irvine goes great guns, quick spool up and nice braking for constant speed. The Irvine is a very solid performer, you will get plenty left to escape from nasty hover fall-outs and to start the TR. I feel now I should place a shameless plug here for SuperGlue or a kit.... ;)

Hehehe... simply the best for what I do, anyway.

Miskin I felt that I needed a rigid back tail end, from experience from with myExtra Wot. The wire were to flexible. This was noticed when trial running on the ground and watching the vibration flexing the back end. Today I was hovering with the ASP 53, similar to the Irvine I have both, by blipping managed to get down to half throttle, plenty left for flyaway. Incidently I have replaced the under cart with a wire set up from an old panic.

ok guy's i flew my flip yesterday for the first time brand new irvine 53 12.25/3.75 prop 5% nitro .

the problem that i have is when i hover(vertical) about 1/2 throttle and go to power away(still vertical) it takes ages is this normal ???

i was expecting something quicker (like my cougar 2000)

shall i try different fuel ive got 10% nitro

or shall i try different prop's????

Miskin Try Duraglow10%. But allow several tanks through and you MUST set the engine up, with a good slow run.

Edible I made my own rods cynoed into brass tubing. Steve Webb at Frodsham, will have the gear.

Welsh told you they were/are good, with that set up.Y have an S when there are good 53s?

johnyh

the fuel that i have is prosynth 2000 from weston's i have to use that in my west 50t1 for my hype 3d

will that be ok

Miskin I've seen the pro run but still prefer the Duraglow10% because it's more available locally. Try it and see but 10% seems betterfor the quick responses. But remember the Flip will fly Veerrryyy slowly but you then need max deflections on the surfaces. But the pleasure when you get right to the dismay of club mates.

Gav B 06-23-2003 07:15 PM

Carbon Pushrods.

edible engine

try fibre tech (www.fibretechgb.co.uk) i use the 3mm o/s diameter with a 2mm internal diameter as a standard metal push rod fits inside. i cyno it in, then whip 1/2 inch of the carbon rod and 1/2 inch of the metal rod for additional support as i dont trust cyno on its own with metal. a 980mm rod weighs 8.3gr and cost £2.80.

Would the Radio active big extended horns do for higher stress loads and movment or should i go metal

Edible I've used the horns supplied. It was my failure to peg the aileron correctly that caused it to part from the wing and not a horn failure. However I do use tubing just to provide tension on the clip.

Edible ive got the west .50t1 in my hype its only been run twice and i tached it its turning my 13x4w apc prop at 12100 on 10% nitro so im hoping it will get stronger the more i use it...

my hype weigh's 6 1/2 pound

my flip weigh's 5 1/2 pound

should be great in a flip

My advice if you are talking control horns is to go for the sullivan metals with the f/g inserts that stop slop. They are very very strong, look pretty cool, don't weigh a lot and sure can handle the stress. failing that the MK's or ZN hors go great. Pricey I agree but worth the investment. After all when the plane turns to dust on an impact, rest assured you can recycle those bits. :) Also try the Irvine carbon rod set, they are very strong and easy to use, good price as well!

I wonder if the kit has changed at all since I built mine when I hear what some people have said.

I dont think the tip design is a problem necessarily, it is usually over elevator with no engine that causes it to stop midair. so if you deadstick go real easy... there is a stack of drag on this plane.

I went simple on controls. 3mm threaded rod, and used the supplied horns - I thought they were pretty good - best Ive seen supplied in an ARTF kit.

RCME are publishing a kit review of it in the next issue (August) out in July,

Someone talked about Nitro. I think the prosynth fuel is good. I use it in amny applications, but you do want at least 10% nitro. Fun flys are very abusive to engines, and they can get hot especially when in a cowl.

heres a pic of mine..

Hi all

Wen i said about the horns i actually ment the servo horns. As im just a dosey teenager i fogot to put in that they were for the servos.

Archie

Whens the new RCM&E out?

Can you e-mail me a copy of it to: [email protected].
Im about to order one very soon (this week) and id like to know they build, fly etc.

Is the flip good. What engine did you use. as i said im using the west 50t1. cant afford a ys and it needs 20% fuel. I use Bekra 10% fuel from model techics. Its designed for helis so it cools very well.

Thanks
Ian

Archie 06-25-2003 04:35 PM

Ummm

Errr...

Output Arms.... yesy I suggest firmer ones definately. I chose Dubro Super strength arms.

RCME out beginning of next month.

Ummm Errrr.. how do I email you a copy of the RCM&E !?

Flip aint bad, but I think it needs a more capable pilot than say the madness for example, on the whole, although some manouvres are easier with the flip, most notably torque rolls.

I think West 50 with Mini Pipe will be a good option.

Servo arms... servo arms... try dubro as mentioned before, they are great, if not a tad bulky. The Hanger 9 anodised ones are very good, lightweight and very strong... I think Ripmax or CSM Distribution have them.

Archie

Sorry, i ment a copy of the reviev not a copy of a whole magazine.

Also will the capiche team be flying at wings n wheels on sunday

Thanks

Ian
