RE: what to get?

The only 3D plane that I have is a GP Reacter and I think it is to big to 3D with a .46 some people put a .46 on it but I don't think it will 3d with one. I'd guess either a profile or a H9 twist. For a profile, from what I've read on here a Mojo would be a good one.

RE: what to get?

The Mojo is an excellent choice if you want to build the kit, if you want an ARF then look at the OMP Edge. Both are great 3D planes. The Twist is a good sport plane but not the best for 3D.

We have almost the same username.

I would definately go for a Mojo as well. It is a great plane to learn 3D on. If you are not a builder then I second the OMP Edge ARF.

RE: what to get?

I thought you could get the Mojo as a kit or ARF.

RE: what to get?

thank yal! I dont like the profile planes i kinda want a plane that can 3d but is more of a sport/fun fly... A guy at my local flying field got a u can do 60 at a swap meet with a ys 91 and digital servos on it and only wants $250 for it! good choice?

RE: what to get?

The ucando will 3D. If you must have a full fuse plane then that would be a good choice. The profiles are lighter making them better for 3D, but they have a shorter tail moment making them not as good for precision flying. I use to have a ucando40 and loved it. I just finished a OMP Yak kit with a modified fuse (2" longer) It also flies great. The twist is not good for 3D and also not good for precision either. I have flown them and (just my opinion) the only thing they are good for is to burn holes in the sky at full throttle.

RE: what to get?

For that price anything would be a good choice. But if you do get the UCD don't fly it fast, I've heard they blow apart.
For something that will 3D but still do sport flying well, the GP Reactor might be good but a .46 would not pull it good enough for 3D.
I have a Reactor but don't have it ready to fly yet and prob. won't for a while.

RE: what to get?

I use to fly my ucando at full throttle all the time. I did have only a 4 pitch prop though. (13x4). Never in a dive. but, yes that was probably pushing it. There is a guy at the field with the bigger reactor and his flys very well. I guessing, but I don't think the reactor will be as stable as the ucando.(really thin wing vs. really really really thick wing). The reactor should be good for 3D if you keep the weight down.

Im also thinking of the reactor and getting me a mag. 52 for it.. Think itd pull it?

Do you actually fly anything beside the Sim?

RE: what to get?

Yes sir! been flying for 5 years no 3d flown fast, spads sticks etc... just havent done any 3d except for on the sim

RE: what to get?

slim jim, long john, big stick, spad stick, easy sport, countless combat planes, sr. falson, super sportster, etc... wanna make the move to 3d

Is it a 2-stroke or 4-stroke? If it is a 4s it won't,but if it is a 2s I don't know. I have a Saito .82 4s on mine. I'm not sure what size engine the saito is equal in power to.

cwick1989 11-15-2009 01:56 PM

RE: what to get?

Its a 2 stroke cant afford a 4 stroke

RE: what to get?

I know that engine will fly it I just don't know if it will 3d it. Check out the reactor .46-.70 thread, there is ALOT of really helpfull info there and some of the guys there are using about a .50 2s with theirs. There are also a few great vids of people 3ding it there.

rc airplane nut 11-15-2009 04:25 PM

RE: what to get?

Also, if you read the reactor thread, you will notice that they talk about the plane nosing over on the ground and soft landing gear, the new ones come with updated landing gear that is stiffer and not swept back as much.
I'm not trying to tell you not to buy that UCD as it sounds like an amazing deal and it is a good plane.

cwick1989 11-15-2009 09:01 PM

RE: what to get?

I havent actually seen the ucd... the guy told me what it had in it and said the engines been rebuilt but the planes hit the ground a few time but has been repaired and still flies... but idk kinda wanna get the reactor or the ucd 46 cause I have a smaller car... but I will look at the reactor thread thank you!

your welcome, if you what I'll let you know what I think of mine once I get it flying.

RE: what to get?

Yeah let me know! I read as much of the reactor thread as I could stand til it got to repetitive! there were guys who put .46s on em with standard size radio gear and said it lew good but wouldnt 3d... I think with mini servos and a .52 itd do good????

rc airplane nut 11-16-2009 12:56 PM

RE: what to get?

If you can stand to read more:D, I got to page 44 and about from page 20 to where I am alot of guys have already flown theirs and tried lots of different engines(from .46-1.00). I think you will be able to find what you want to know there. Also the covering is not very good and tries to come off over time and some where in that section someone mentioned using clear top flight lustercote to help hold it on.
I just got a check for an engine that I sold so I will be sending the order form today and should have it ready to go In about a week.
The pics posted by wyo69cowboy are my reactor before I got it.(wyo69cowboy gave it to me) When I fly it I wont be able to give you a report on how it 3ds, because I have never done any 3d except on the sim either but I will try to hover an tell you if I can with it. BTW, I have a set of the upgrade lg on its way.
I don't know if the .52 will 3d it but I'm guessing it will. wyo69cowboy had about a .50 with a tuned pipe on his for awhile but I don't remember if he could 3d it. His elevation is about 5,000ft and I think his engine was enough so yours prob, will.

wyo69cowboy 11-16-2009 04:27 PM

RE: what to get?

The .50's would be marginal for 3d at elevation, but in Texas, I imagine your elevation is a lot lower and guys that use the 50-size 2 strokes work fine. An OS55AX seems to be a popular choice, largely because it will swing a fairly large prop. I wasn't a big fan of profiles either, but after I gave my damaged Reactor to rcplanenut, I got an Extreme Flight Chinn Yak and transfered my gear to it. Definitlely better power to weightmy Reactor was 5.5 pounds, and the Yak is 4.5. Gotta say the profile will do more tight, twisty 3D stuff (it does this incredibly tight knife edge spin), but the Reactor will do some of that and definitely is more precise. I still really like the Reactor, and it sounds like you might be interested in something like it. That UcanDo sounds pretty good too...
