Default RE: NEW QUEST

Glad you hooked up with Merle. He has been wonderful to deal with.

You do not have to beef up the QUEST. I did what I did because I was originally fitting a bigger tank amidships and into the canopy area. I also had to cut the firewall off the first one because I fitted a YS 1.40L

The Quest 2 has a firewall for a radial mount. (The QUEST 1 used wooden beams). I noted that if you smacked a Quest into the weeds hard it would break. If you never do this then you would not need any doublers

Knowing this, I put 1/8" lite-ply doublers on the sides. I also fitted harder ply to the U/C plate area because the blind nuts can pull through in a "prang". Also quite a few guys are putting a vertical 2" bandage "horseshoe", soaked in epoxy resin first, and then the doublers and the ply-plate.

Hope this helps?

Regards,

Eric.

I had a really nice bunch of emails from Merle Hyde about his mounts. Come to find out the YS 91 / 110 have the EXACT same mounting holes and dimensions as the Saito 100 / 125. So a Hyde "A" mount will work for me. Merle has a few new things comming down the line soon. Like A type mounts with Aluminum beams, and you should be able to get them with or without predrilled holes. Merle is a really cool guy. If you ever need some info on Hyde mounts, drop him an email. Eric, a question for you.... When you beefed up the nose section, was that just because you are using a large heavy motor? Or would you deem it prudent for all applications? A little extra weight in the nose won't hurt me, but I am concerned about the braces under the canopy, and sealing the fuel compartment lid. I will keep the tank in the stock position. Glassing the LG area is always a good Idea, especially for those of us who have an occasional less than perfect landing!
UPS promises to deliver on Friday..... and Saturday and Sunday they are predicting rain here.........My wife won't see me all weekend!!
