RE: Just Bought *CT5*
Ok, after a week of crappy weather, today was fairly cooperable... not great but useable. so i took the new 5 out to break it in.... i tried to start the engine a few days ago by first runnign some good ARO in the new engine just to ensure it had proper lubrication.... filled the tank, primed the carb, pulled the rope..... pulled the rope... pulled the rope.... pulled the rope... pulled the rope.... you get the idea... it was not cooperating. ok time to shelf it for a few days and work on something else for a bit......
so today i expected a bit of a fit. but much to my shagrin, i set the car on a small box,see photo primed the carb, put the glow to it, and it fired the first pull! nice... and ran for about 5 seconds and stalled, idle settings on controller and car. sure it was WAY RICH, mostly due to the fact when i first looked at the carb today, the HSN & LSN seemed ( by seemed, i mean it LOOKED TO ME, compared to what im USED to seeing in needle seetings) to be WAY lean, so before i did much, like a fool. i richened each screw up a bit before i even tried to roll it over. i restarted the engine same thing... my glow igniter was weak, so i grabbed a charged one.. i loosed the glow plug a bit as the comp was strong and i was worried about rope/spring problems, then put the igniter to it, let it sit there for a few seconds befor i tried to restart. This time it fired right up on the 3rd pull and stayed running. GOOD DEAL.... first thing i noticed was the amount of nitro coming out of the muffler. good to see its getting lubed..... maybe to much but its breaking so no biggie.....
i removed the igniter and tighted the glow. i had set the thrt trm up a tad on the throatle so idleing was high enough to engage the clutch. this is the reason for the toss away stand ( otherwise known as a small cardboard box). i ran car to about 1/3rd thrt. held for 30 seconds n let off. i did this for about 1/2 tank. still major amounts of petro coming from muffler. so i let car come to idle and run for about 3 minutes.... temps were about 150. pretty low still.... i did the 1/3rd thrt for 30 seconds, temp peaked 164. still to low. i let car come back to idle. now i leaned my LSN a bit until i could see a bit less nitro coming from exhaust. let the car idle for 30 seconds, temp now at 160s at idleing, i ran 1/3rd again and temp got to 180s, better, i let car idle idle and readj the LSN a bit more. just letting car idle for remainder of tank at about 175 - 185. car ran about 3 more minutes befor tank was empty. total time from start to empty was about 7 or 8 minutes. i let car cool down refilled tank, and did much the same process retuning the HSN this time a bit. bringing the car to 1/2 thrt showed copious amounts of nitro from exhaust and running was for obvious reasons, rough.
got car running 3rd tank thru it now... running a bit higher than idle on toss away test stand.. heh.
will post more l8r.
