Hi, im just getting back into RC after a many yr hiatis... have a few Nitro MTs, and wanted to include a good road car into my garage, so i may apease a serious SPEED ADDICTION i can not otherwise get. After looking around, reading reviews, options, performance, ect, i opted to purchase the new CEN CT-5. My question to you is simple. well maybe. heh.
What are some of the MUST HAVE UGs i need to do to make this a solid handleing, controllable car.
I will be using a JR RS310 receiver. I use a JR XS3 Pro controller and have the 310 in my main MT already. With the XS3 Pros 10 memory setup, i have room for my 2 trucks, 2 boats, and a Sand Dragster Project im planning, as well as the CT-5.
I also plan on UG to coreless Digital HT servo for steering and throttle/break. i have a JR High Torque Z9000DT on my Maxx and it works great. this may be overkill here, maybe a z590m would be sufficient, but i think i d rather stay Coreless HT Digital for Steering and a Coreless HS for throttle/break position. what say you?
I suspect some of the first things i ll be looking for is suspension, wheels/rims/,bulks, and shocktowers maybe. what have your experiences been?
As far as use for this, i plan on mostly lot racing with some buddies, nothing ranked. at least not this year. unless i take to it like a pig in mud, then who knows...
Anyways, here is a basic jist of what i have and how im planning on useing it for now. any advice you can offer as far as set up tips, including special tuning techniques for this Car or other "Tricks" you may of happeded upon that help with get this car set up and running fine... also, any UGs, Hopups, NEED TO GET ASAP items, or just plain info that you would like to share, that would be surpurb... post pics as well, especially any Mods that may be required to, shall we say, "tweek the stock setup to get things right".
Looking forward to checking out this 70+ mph ride, which if it does 70, that means 90 is just up the road.

Ok, after a week of crappy weather, today was fairly cooperable... not great but useable. so i took the new 5 out to break it in.... i tried to start the engine a few days ago by first runnign some good ARO in the new engine just to ensure it had proper lubrication.... filled the tank, primed the carb, pulled the rope..... pulled the rope... pulled the rope.... pulled the rope... pulled the rope.... you get the idea... it was not cooperating. ok time to shelf it for a few days and work on something else for a bit......
so today i expected a bit of a fit. but much to my shagrin, i set the car on a small box,see photo primed the carb, put the glow to it, and it fired the first pull! nice... and ran for about 5 seconds and stalled, idle settings on controller and car. sure it was WAY RICH, mostly due to the fact when i first looked at the carb today, the HSN & LSN seemed ( by seemed, i mean it LOOKED TO ME, compared to what im USED to seeing in needle seetings) to be WAY lean, so before i did much, like a fool. i richened each screw up a bit before i even tried to roll it over. i restarted the engine same thing... my glow igniter was weak, so i grabbed a charged one.. i loosed the glow plug a bit as the comp was strong and i was worried about rope/spring problems, then put the igniter to it, let it sit there for a few seconds befor i tried to restart. This time it fired right up on the 3rd pull and stayed running. GOOD DEAL.... first thing i noticed was the amount of nitro coming out of the muffler. good to see its getting lubed..... maybe to much but its breaking so no biggie.....
i removed the igniter and tighted the glow. i had set the thrt trm up a tad on the throatle so idleing was high enough to engage the clutch. this is the reason for the toss away stand ( otherwise known as a small cardboard box). i ran car to about 1/3rd thrt. held for 30 seconds n let off. i did this for about 1/2 tank. still major amounts of petro coming from muffler. so i let car come to idle and run for about 3 minutes.... temps were about 150. pretty low still.... i did the 1/3rd thrt for 30 seconds, temp peaked 164. still to low. i let car come back to idle. now i leaned my LSN a bit until i could see a bit less nitro coming from exhaust. let the car idle for 30 seconds, temp now at 160s at idleing, i ran 1/3rd again and temp got to 180s, better, i let car idle idle and readj the LSN a bit more. just letting car idle for remainder of tank at about 175 - 185. car ran about 3 more minutes befor tank was empty. total time from start to empty was about 7 or 8 minutes. i let car cool down refilled tank, and did much the same process retuning the HSN this time a bit. bringing the car to 1/2 thrt showed copious amounts of nitro from exhaust and running was for obvious reasons, rough.
got car running 3rd tank thru it now... running a bit higher than idle on toss away test stand.. heh.
will post more l8r.

k, back from the kidlets after school special.... as saying befor, there was still a good amount of nitro coming from exhaust still. i leaned up the HSN on the 2nd tank of gas a bit. and on the 3rd made minor adjustments to both LSN and HSN.... is running pretty well, idles well at this point. runs about 180 to 190 at idle when warmed up... can run throt at wot and still get nitro from exhaust but has a nice plume of blue smoke... still rich but with 3 tanks thru it now, and a few more hrs of useable weather i ll have this baby tuned right in....
notice the WET spots in the pics above.
Yea, i think i can lean it out abit more....

I think you'll see more of a difference in performance between the weight of a full tank of gas and a 1/4 tank of gas than you will though most upgrades. Gears sets excluded. Maybe buy some sticky tires, the stock CEN tires aren't very good IMO.

yea just sitting on my stand running to 1/2 thrt. i noticed the tires unmounting from the rim edges, though i have yet to glue them on, which is probably y, i would not want to run it as it is. they elongated and simply spun off the edge grooves of the rim... just at 1/2 thrt... ouch....
another thing i noticed that i know im going to change is the primer pump.... as i was breaking in the motor, i noticed air bubbles in the intake gas line coming from the primer bulb. as a stock piece, CEN gives the nipple adapter to remove the primer bulb as stock upgrade option... nice touch in my opinion....in the Ct5 kit...
good ideas about tires/rims anyone?

Nice looking car! I also just recently bought a one, but mine is the ct4-s. I put the competition drivetrain on it and it just rips. Here are a couple of pics of it.

nice, how does it hangle. and what about your rims/tires.. do you have control probs. how did you solve your tire issues/ upgrade? thanx tim.
Nice ride you have too. the ct5 comes with the comp tranny system already, though i ve yet too deal with the differance..... thanx for the help.
a few shots of the bodies. CT5 Proche 911, and a hirosho Ford GT body.

Handles great. Last time I ran it I used x-pattern tires in pro compound and really stuck to the pavement, it would break loose a little off the line under hard acceleration then the tires would grab take off like a rocket. Alot of fun and very controlable, I have not yet tried the tires in the pics yet.

I've gone thru I believe my 10th tank or so with my CT4-S and I am constantly having steering problems. I have adjusted the steering on my remote but still to no avay. It constantly likes to go to one side. I did adjust the camber to alot of negative camber for both front and rear tires since I want this car to mostly drift and not just drag, but my front half shafts fell out and I lost them in a local huge parking lot. Is there a place where I can get longer half shafts so that I can adjust my camber to be more negative than just 2 threads out? and how can I fix my steering so that it will quit going to one side? I am fairly new to this. Thanks guys!
Also with the air bubbles in the lines, that bubble primer is the cause of that, and using that metal nipple thing is the fix for those air bubbles correct? If thats so, how the hell do I install it? I have the rubber thing off but am not sure what to do

the ct5 came with the adapter and instructions, i have yet to swap it out, will probably do that tomorrow some time. i think you can get the ct5 manual on cenracing.com and open it via a PDF (adobe acrobat) my manual had the instructions included. if i can ill snap a pic( its a small one piece sheet) and post it then.
steering seems to be the biggest issue i can see coming down the road, no punn intended... i think a good quality set of tires and rims that have been properly Balances will help alot with that. will post more after i ve had a bit of time to experiment.

so many projects going on at the moment ive YET to get any farther. unfortunately but later this week, thurs or friday i ll do more...
can you get me a link to those tires and rims. i like them, and NEED better than the stock tires at least. the rims are fine.... the goodyears are out the door, they LOOK GREAT but not sized at all correctly. damn ebayers only giving PARTIAL TRUTHS in their ads... i think they are for bigger cars say a 1/8 or 1/6 size car... bummer, they look to be so nice and grippy! lol
Did you balance them yet? im betting if you do youll gain even more control. especially at higher speeds. im waiting to do mine until i make a decision on tires.

Here are the tires

and the rims

I also have a set of these tires (Pro compound) and they hook up well also, but wear faster than the others.

They are Ellegi Technics Racing Tires by GRP. The rear tires are 30mm And the fronts are 26mm. The rears will rub for the first run but very minimal. Give them a try. I feel they are great and, they don't wear like the rubber ones. Make sure the surface is fairly smooth or you could rip chunks off the tire.
