I can't help here. I've only ever used the MPI regulators. Unregulated power goes in one side, regulated 6V comes out the other. They have a 10 amp constant capacity with a 20 amp burst ability. I use two of them in parallel with 2 switches and 2 battery packs. They cost $20 each, I've never seen a need for anything fancier or more expensive.

When combined with a couple Lipo packs they seem to make a bullet proof high performance power supply that weighs very little and costs around $100-$125 depending on capacity.
