I can't help here. I've only ever used the MPI regulators. Unregulated power goes in one side, regulated 6V comes out the other. They have a 10 amp constant capacity with a 20 amp burst ability. I use two of them in parallel with 2 switches and 2 battery packs. They cost $20 each, I've never seen a need for anything fancier or more expensive.
When combined with a couple Lipo packs they seem to make a bullet proof high performance power supply that weighs very little and costs around $100-$125 depending on capacity.

Ive been using Fromecos with no problems..Smart Fly is just as good..Im using their Equalizer and Fiber Optic Kill switches
Cant go wrong with either and both will give you great support if needed.

I'm currently using the MPI regulators without the heatsink. There has been a lot of discussion of them failing. Now I'm a bit worried. I am running two MPI regulators with two batteries directly to the receiver. Digitals on all surfaces except throttle and choke. 10 flights without issues, but no hard 3d yet.
Tom, which MPI regulators do/did you use?
Has anyone used the FMA regulator?
Does anyone know how many amps are put on the flight system with 4 hitec 5645's, 1 5955TG and 2 standard servos?

I'm worried because in the adjacent "Giant scale forum" alot of people were posting failures with these regulators because they can not sustain the load imposed on them. While on the ground and moving the surfaces, I can get a maximum of a 1 amp load (using a whatmeter). No very precise measuring, but anyway.
In the other forum, it is said that these regulators should not be used when running several digital servos? have you used them on your extra 300 lx 28%.
By the way, now that I finally have had a chance to fly the extra (after the total loss of my first one), I'm a true believer. I love the plane.

Yes I use them all the time and have never had a problem. The video of the Extra 300 Special being flown by Bill Hrempel http://www.wildharerc.com/Downloads/extra300-004.wmv was flown using 2 1500mah Lipos and the MPI regulators. I have also used them on larger 33% and 35% planes without an issue. As I said before they have a 10A sustained output rating.
Wanna draw a lot of current? Hook up any old brushed electric motor, like a speed 400 or similar.

I use the 20amp Rated MPI regulators and have had no problems. I mainly fly 3D and they have been just fine. I dont like the 10amp rated ones as I have burned out one of those. I would use at least two for safety.
There are 8 hi torque digital servos in my 33% 260 and one smaller 5245 on the throttle for a total of 9 servos.
Smart Fly has a nifty regulator I might try soon. Its even got a little fan on it. I use the Smart Fly ignition kill switch and it works great.
