Check the table with a straight edge.
Doing this should give you a good idea if it is useable or not.

Check the classifieds in your local paper for old drawing boards, you can get some real monsters that are dead flat. (easy to pin to as well)

Now that Autocad and alike have become popular the old drawing boards are no longer neccessary for many companies.
