I didn't use the metal hinges, I saved them for my screen door I too was considering CF wing tubes and LG but I'll wait until I fly it. I am of the same opinion as you. From 20 ft. back it looks good but I am not overwhelmed with the plane in general. I think I'll just fly it for a season or two and dump it. There is much better out there I am sure.

I'll check the weight when I get it finished but if it's less than 17 lbs. I'll be surprised. I have heard lots of reports of this plane being 16.5 - 18 lbs. mine weighed 10.5 lbs. right out of the box not counting the hinges.
