I know I had the "half tank lean" condition because at the end of the tank I had awesome power so I could just tune it at half tank and run rich at the beginning, but I don't want to run rich at the beginning. With the new head It only runs rich for about 1 min or something then it gets up to a good temp and keeps it there, at the end it's slightly lean bit not much.

But as you said you can keep the stock head and tune it at half tank and you will not have any temp problems.
