The option pinion sets are threaded, you can buy pinion gears as single items. The steel pinions are spot welded on and cannot be removed. I know what you mean about the tall gearing but I prefer the tougher gears and the peace of mind that they wont wear out after a few tanks.
The steel pinions I had were crimped onto the clutch bell and sheared right off!
I'm going to braze weld them back on....
