strut pix
Hi gang,
as described previously, I beefed up my tailplane with the use of 2 1ft tubes of 3/16 round aliminium stock. It's super light and easy to work in to appropriate angles etc. Just crimped the ends with pliers and drilled a hole for a short woodscrew and loctited them in there.
The tailplane has a leading edge of ply or some type of strong wood but the elevator section is all balsa/poplar or something else weak. I found if I squeezed mine with my fingers it left an indentation!
Hopefully this mod should give it the appropriate strength otherwise I'll be cutting out the horizontal member and rebuilding with stronger wood.
Before fitting the struts the horizontals were a bit wishy washy, now they are nice and tight.... should all help. And hopefully no more breakages from just moving around the house.
