I possibly shouldn't bring this up again, but I just did a little research on Google after not understanding too well all that stuff about linkages a few pages ago. I found this explanation which has some nice clear diagrams:

One thing I don't think Ernie mentioned and is advised at the above link: If you plan on off-setting the control horn to remove the differential, aluminum servo arms and ball links are recommended.
They would certainly be better. I've now hooked up my ailerons. I did offset them a tiny bit (possibly the correct amount, it didn't look like it needed much) so I figure I'll get away with it. If I were using those giant servo arms though, I would think ball links would be mandatory.
