Default 6V on RX ANY PROBLEMS?

last year I purchased a 1.60 size plane that came with a 6v noobs brand new rx battery. After charging, I believe the volts were up in the 7's and I always saw twitching in the servos till I got some flights in and the pack lost some volts. well I only got to charge the battery a few times before the plane went in. it was right in front of me hanging it and I just finished charging the battery. everything locked up and turned nose down and went in at 1/2 throttle. not pretty. I always use a reg. of some sort now. I even use the same rx that was in the plane that went in. no problems. I run JR and the receiver was a 770. anybody else notice any problems when just using a 6v battery. seems like a lot of people are using them. that incident just freaked me out, I've never had a problem with my radio before till I used the battery.
