It sounds like your switch assignment is not quite right. I think you might have common dual rates, and gear assigned to the same switch.

Start with the transmitter off. Press and hold the down button (to the left of the screen) and the select button at the same time, while you switch on the transmitter. From there you are able to choose the model number, set the modulation type etc. Go to the switch configuration screen, and make sure it's set up correctly.

On my Tx, I have D/R set to COM AILE, which uses the right switch (alie d/r) to control dual rates. For GEAR, I have it set to ELEV D/R which makes the "elev d/r" switch on the left, control the gyro setting. Finally, I have the FL-M (flight mode) set to LEFT SW which places the control of my flight mode on the top left switch.
