RE: Idea's on a first Twin
I have all 3. Twin Stick/OS .46AX, TwinStar/GMS .32, Dual Ace/ Evo .46.
If you already have a couple of .25-.32 engines, naturally the TwinStar would be your choice. It's a good flying little plane. It does have some engine out thrust, but not enough as it does yaw a good bit with an engine out and some people, one in my area, bashed on 1 engine. It is well built, but has small tanks. Doesn't roll very fast-slowest of the 3. It is really a twin trainer.
The Dual Ace is heavier and looks better. It flies more like a scale plane. Looks great in the air and does land nicely, but slightly faster than the other 2. Does all the regular acro. It is more of a job to build and the CG shown in the manual is very nose heavy. It will get looks whenever you take it out to fly. Has a 2-piece wing with a tube and 4 hard-to-get-to bolts, especially if you have big hands. I replaced them and use a ratchet. It yaws, but flies well on 1 engine.
The Twin Stick flies like a Stick. With 2 .46 size engines, and I have used GMS .47s and OS .46AXs, it has unlimited vertical. You might want to move the rudder & elevator servo to the rear as I did, although, the newer kits have a 3" longer fuselage which should correct the nose heavy condition. This is better than the tail heavy condition of the Dual Ace. The Stick lands slower, rolls faster and does snaps, spins, flat spins and the greatest outside square loops. I put in 8 degrees of out thrust on mine usine Ernst thrust plates and I have done acro on 1 engine. I do like all Sticks, but I bought a second Twin Stick just in case they stopped making them. It is a fun plane. Not very good looking, but you can rip around the sky and do everything up to 3D with it.
If you have a single .46, I'd get another and the Twin Stick for a started. Then if you like twins, go for the Dual Ace. Of my 3, I like the TwinStar the least and now have the engines in something else. Which ever one you pick, drop me an e-mail and I'll give you what I found on building, set-ups and flying.
