Default Idea's on a first Twin

I am wanting a twin and not sure which one would be the best for a first twin...I have looked at the Dual Ace, Twinstar and also the Twin Stik... For a first build and a first time to fly a twin what should i go with.

The Dual Ace is the best flying out of the three, it is also the best price for what you get in my opinion. It is a bit heavy so you have to have .46 2-strokes in it or equal or bigger. The twinstar can get by on smaller engines so you may save a little but the reports I have heard about the Dual Ace make it the only choice.

Rickles:
Do you have a Dual Ace? If you do, I will of course respect your opinion, but your last sentence leads me to believe that you are just repeating what you have read.

I have both the Twinstar and the Dual Ace and from my experience, the Twinstar is a better flier. The Dual Ace is a better twin trainer, because it will teach you how to deal with some of the handing problems you can run into with the more sophisticated warbird twins. The Twinstar is so forgiving and so easy to fly that it really doesn't prepare you for the harsher realities of twin flying.

The Dual Ace is faster, much faster, but it lands faster also. The Twinstar does much better aerobatics.

I don't have any experience with the Twin Stik.

I have all 3. Twin Stick/OS .46AX, TwinStar/GMS .32, Dual Ace/ Evo .46.

If you already have a couple of .25-.32 engines, naturally the TwinStar would be your choice. It's a good flying little plane. It does have some engine out thrust, but not enough as it does yaw a good bit with an engine out and some people, one in my area, bashed on 1 engine. It is well built, but has small tanks. Doesn't roll very fast-slowest of the 3. It is really a twin trainer.

The Dual Ace is heavier and looks better. It flies more like a scale plane. Looks great in the air and does land nicely, but slightly faster than the other 2. Does all the regular acro. It is more of a job to build and the CG shown in the manual is very nose heavy. It will get looks whenever you take it out to fly. Has a 2-piece wing with a tube and 4 hard-to-get-to bolts, especially if you have big hands. I replaced them and use a ratchet. It yaws, but flies well on 1 engine.

The Twin Stick flies like a Stick. With 2 .46 size engines, and I have used GMS .47s and OS .46AXs, it has unlimited vertical. You might want to move the rudder & elevator servo to the rear as I did, although, the newer kits have a 3" longer fuselage which should correct the nose heavy condition. This is better than the tail heavy condition of the Dual Ace. The Stick lands slower, rolls faster and does snaps, spins, flat spins and the greatest outside square loops. I put in 8 degrees of out thrust on mine usine Ernst thrust plates and I have done acro on 1 engine. I do like all Sticks, but I bought a second Twin Stick just in case they stopped making them. It is a fun plane. Not very good looking, but you can rip around the sky and do everything up to 3D with it.

If you have a single .46, I'd get another and the Twin Stick for a started. Then if you like twins, go for the Dual Ace. Of my 3, I like the TwinStar the least and now have the engines in something else. Which ever one you pick, drop me an e-mail and I'll give you what I found on building, set-ups and flying.

I have the Twinstick, and it is great flying model. Mine is flying on 2 Mag .40XL's. It will climb faster than any stick I have ever flown at full throttle, but slows down nice for landings. It is also easy to handle on one engine with zero offset, on either engine. I have lost an engine several time with no bad habits.
I understand that the newer kits are good bit better quality than the earlier ones. Mine had a lot faulty glue joints, however Niel told me they cured the problem.
Like Ed, I put the rudder and elevator servo in the rear to help with balance.

I also have a Twin-Air 45. It's also an excellent flying plane, but it isn't an ARF. It is pretty easy to build and has excellent wood in the kit. It is lighter than the Dual Ace and I would say, faster since it is a skinny plane. Lands very nicely and handles well on 1 engine.

I have seen the Twin Stick fly and I was very impressed by it. Also, for $125 at www.cedarhobbies.net you simply cannot beat the value. The pilot noted that it slowed way down for landing and, as was previously stated, had excellent aerobatic potential.

Personally, for my first twin, I just ordered a Cessna 337, (push/pull). I realize it's kind of like cheating, but that aircraft has always appealed to me.
