RE: Evolution Engine - Is it any good or just beginners junk ???? Which Prop ???
Steve,
I would have to disagree about the prop size.
It seems most hobby shops will be glad to sell the 10x7 prop for any .46 engine, Evo included.
...But back-to-back flying with this size and with the 11x6 and 11.5x5 convinced me that the 10x7 is simply wrong.
It will fly some lighter, very sleek models, but for the typical 5 lb. plus .46 model, the sky is all uphill for a 10x7.
The plane will be pretty fast in level flight and in dives, but in climbs it will lose speed rapidly.
It will also not have enough thrust to fly through and exit maneuvers.
An 11x6 will lose very little speed compared to a 10x7, despite less RPM as well as less pitch, since it overcomes both drag and weight much better. The 11.5x5 will lose more speed, but would make the best maneuvering and climb power.
T/O will be much quicker too.
Bruce,
Engines that are made by Sanye China have been around for long enough, to know their P+L will outlast the OS ABN by a huge margin. The ABC assembly from Sanye has a long, positive history, in Magnum, ASP, SC, SY (and who know which other engines). So saying it will outlast the OS is not a rash statement.
Both, unfortunately, use bearings from similar sources, I believe...
