Hoss,

Mixed with the elevator, your manual should give you suggestions for throws. You can have a landing mix with a little up canard so that the angle of attack will be increased which will slow down the plane for landing. Is that what you mean by flaps? The canarad goes opposite of the elevator... ie up elevator would look like down canard. I put 10 degrees up canard in a mix for landing. Same thing on take off would get the nose off the ground faster...
