Horrace Cain / old curmudgeon, what ever you prefer.
I am sorry that you feel I was trying to cut corners. or how ever you see it. I passed on my MA aviation to a couple of perspective new members /renegade flyers in my area. I guess I should have gotten that info first before i passed them on to someone else. I will note for you that I KNEW EXACTLY where to get that information from and what page of the magazine to boot. I am however very disappointed that you would sit there and type crap like I am entering this side of R.C. and not take it seriously. With words like that I can see why your papers where filed in file 13. You have done great for the Hobby and for AMA, but you know nothing about me, so Please come to my event and see if I am how you portray me to be. Fire away since this will be my last response to you in this matter.

MR. Salgado:
It's too bad that AMA really does not provide potential new CDs with a Handbook for initial training. As the individual that first initiated and got AMA into a form of CD training, I have witnessed the prostitution of that program since it went into the office rather than being administered by the DVPs themselves. A few years ago there was an 'ad-hoc' committee to reconsider the CD question. I was appointed to that committee, and of course I was the only one that submitted a report. It was in a Staff Study format and was not well received as the actual AMA originators wanted more of a method to discipline Contest Directors rather than assist and support them. My report laid the faults at AMA's door and suggested a number of actions for AMA to institute, but of course they were filed in File 13, as I expected they would be.
In this time AMA has taken several swipes at the Contest Director force. One being early on under the Don Lowe / Bob Underwood regime when they canceled making CDs Leader Members after a year of proper activity and reporting. Neither of them even knew where the authority was written. Guess who had to inform them -- yep this old curmudgeon. However a quick call of the square-table yes-men and they had the authority reversed. CDs are no longer awarded Leader status under CD work and there are no people in AMA that work any harder to promote model aviation than the Contest Directors.
Therefore "turbulence" when I come across those that have so little interest in the order of things that they cannot find the information such as you wanted, and yet they want "Contest Director" on their membership card, I do get a bit burley, and don't plan to change that. Being a CD is a serious responsibility. When one enters the job without taking it seriously, then the AMA hiearchy just has more amunition to degrade the working people that much more. I attend a few events and see some very poorly administrated ones and I also see some very well administrated ones. As one that has contributed to the trade from small Fly-Ins to Assistant Category Director and Manpower Director at a couple NATs, I BTDT since 1963. I still do.
