RE: China Flyboy Models
Ok here the low down on the Edge 540,I finally got around to putting it together and flying it .
1.The covering is not ultra coat its a low temp that doesn't like the sun at all .
2.The instructs are vague but theres enough to assemble the model if a person has had some previous building experience.
3. One of the wings has a 2 degree twist that I will have to live with ,A sheeted wing is very stiff and I don't think I can twist it back with the covering .
4. I powered the plane with a YS 120 SF 16/8 Graphner ,2 futaba 3004 on the elevators,645 mg hitect for the rudder and ailerons. After mounting the engine I checked it with a meter ,it had 3 degrees downthrust .Since they do not say anything about this I made shims to get the engine back to 0 degrees to match the wings and stab .
5.With the YS in the nose the model was in the CG range but leaned to wards the nose heavy side ,I figured for the first few flights I would just let it ride .
After a few taxi runs up and down the runway to check the tracking and finished dialing in the engine It was ready for the maiden .
I added some throttle the plane tracked straight with little or no rudder until I reached full throttle and lifted off .I reached a safe altitude and eased off the sticks to find the plane wanted to go to the left (Twisted WING )so I trimmed it out and added just a little trim to the elevator for level flight and back it off to around half throttle just to see how this plane was going to fly ,did a few rolls loops and minor stunts ,nothing major .
Then the time came do do the mandatory maneuver the landing .The plane slows down very nice with no tendency to snap or drop a wing I was very pleased with this .
After doing a little more dialing in on the engine I felt it was time to see what this plane had .
Takeoff was the same a no brainer ,Knife edge to the left was almost rudder only ,the right has some coupling issues but can be held without to much trouble.Axial rolls are straight and quick ,loops are tight and straight both outside and inside .
Blenders are very nice ,the plane stops on a dime after centering the sticks .
Both upright and inverted flat spins are a breeze .All and all this plane flys well .After I get the weight transfered more to the rear I will try some advanced 3-D ,as advanced as I can do that is *LOL*
Misses .
1.The covering
2.instructs
3.Wheel pants and cowl are very light but they are fiberglass
4.Firewall was built with downthrust
5.The pushrods was not to be used on a model of this size
For the money even if I have to recover the plane I don't think I went wrong ,A kit of this size would cost me more than what it did even with the new covering .
