You're lucky they didn't have what you wanted. The lt-40 is an excellent trainer, and is VERY forgiving, provided you have enough height. I have a Magnum .46 in mine, and I rarely run it full throttle. In fact, I rarely empty half a tank before I'm ready to come down.

I built most of mine in about 2 weeks, and that was slow, meticulous work. Make sure he covers the wing in bold colors, and the top color is very different than the bottom. This will aid in his spatial recognition.
