Hey Dav,
if you are like me and don't like the appearance of a Profile 3D plane, you could try planes like the Thunder Tiger Expo 3D (ex. 3D Spirit). With an Os .46 or .50 you will have certainly ample power to pull through most 3D maneuvers. Especially when you start practicing hovering you need a plane with a good power:thrust ratio to pull up, when things go wrong. A plane like the Fliton Extra with an OS 46 will certainly not do that - and for a first 3D plane maybe too expensive anyhow

On the other hand the Expo 3D is floaty enough to be not too demanding on the pilot. I also find it a neat plane to experiment with certain mixes, like Elevator -> Flaperon for Squared Loops or Waterfalls.But of course they are plenty of other planes out there. I also had the Magic Extra once and found it quite good, too.
