When you have your control surface set up with 3D rates (45° plus) there is a lot of mechanical disadvantage to your servo (and servo gear train). Most of the time when a nylon gear or Karb gear gets damaged it is when it the control surface gets bumped on the ground when moving the plane. The problem is that most of the time you don't know it is damaged until you have been in the air a while.
