Hopefully this picture will help:
As you can see I cut a square hole that spans to the middle of the next former like the sheeting repair article suggests, which puts the broken former in the middle. I then cut out the leading edge balsa shown, and glued in a new piece I bought at the hobby shop. After that I made a new former by tracing the end then I glued it to the side of the the broken former. Now that I have a new former and new leading edge balsa, all that was left was to sheet it as described in the repair article then sand to shape.
