There is a lot of difference between the rubber bands you get at a stationary store versus the good ones from SIG or equivalent. I often reuse bands with never a problem. Of course I do check them out each time I put them on and I keep the used ones in a light proof container (cardboard old cerial can) with kitty litter to absorb any oil left on them from previous use. With a little bit of care and preuse inspection, I see no problem in reusing the rubber bands if they or of good quality.
