Hi Mike,
Yes, 3001s are fine but you may want to jump up to 6 volts to give them more speed and torque. Cheaper servos are fine too. On my 540 I will be using s3003s with a 6v NiMH pack. It's way cheaper to buy one $20 pack than 5 $20 servos.
