My friend has this same plane. It lands & slows down pretty well. He's not a great lander, in fact he is a much better flyer than he is at landing, but he has no problems setting this bird down gently. If you're just wanting to set it up with flaperons for the fun of it & just to get some experience with them, that is fine. I have done it with a plane that didn't need them either. This is one of those planes. It doesn't need them, but I can see where it might be fun to have them.

I would definitely heed MinnFlyer's advice of low throw. As you stated they are large control surfaces & if you bring them down too much they are going to take all the wind out of your sails in a hurry!!
