What about using it as a candidate for Geared Twin, leave the funky front alone and slap a pinion gear on. Looks like it has a stubby bearing pin shaft nut/extension in the lower picture to facilitate Gear-ification.

Might have a better chance of keeping them 36k rpms if it is really low torqued in geared use.
