Default New .06 Engine

Here's a link to a new .06 engine that definitely has possibilities, unlike the Toki .05. Looks pretty mean,, in a nice way. With a prop driver added, a Norvel .06 muffler and a simple throttle such as from the Brodak, we could have one real mean 1/2A machine.

Checking now to see how much and if there may be an airplane version available some day.

Hey, I'll bet it would make a good diesel.

Well, Picco has been making some seroiusly powerful larger engines for some time now. Mostly for racing boats but they had a few hot ducted fan engines a few years back before the turbine movement took off.

This engine definetly has possibilties if they make an aircraft version.

PS: found the Picco website and it looks like they are strictly into cars, buggys and marine these days. If you want one of these you gotta get the car version and modify it looks like.

The crankcase/crankshaft looks to be too short. Even replacing that huge carb mechanism with a venturi, the crank looks too small to put a prop, driver and nut on.

I have been watching that one for a while now Andy. There are a couple of new .06 sized car/truck engines that have just come out due to the new 1/18th scale micro car fad. While the Picco has a couple of road blocks for us plane guys they should be easy to overcome. Swap out the carb for starters. Then make a new prop driver extension to getthe prop moved out alittle and then a funky spinner that would screw over the shaft like on those crappy Russian .09s. I do wonder how the timing is set up and how much of that 36,000 we would see on a prop. For the price I am thinking about getting one.

LAter,
Tim

Tim,

Yes, I'm thinking that some of the issues can be dealt with. I do like the massive, brass bushed rod, lots of counter weight on the crank, Picco quality. No doubt pricey but hey, you live only once,, and we don't want to get jaded like Easytiger. C'mon ET, get one of these and mess with it, may surprise you.

I think that ETs dilema is the lack of NEW stuff coming out. No shortage of that in most other aspects of the hobby. They never have made a proper 1/2A tank, we always have to dick around. Fun once but gets old after a while,,, things like that. We a dying breed? No matter, I'm going out kicking and screaming. [>:][:@][>:]

What about using it as a candidate for Geared Twin, leave the funky front alone and slap a pinion gear on. Looks like it has a stubby bearing pin shaft nut/extension in the lower picture to facilitate Gear-ification.

Might have a better chance of keeping them 36k rpms if it is really low torqued in geared use.

Looks like the removal of some of the cooling fins to lighten it up and a plane won't need all that cooling area unless it's tightly cowled.

Also that pull start could pose a problem depending how it's hooked through the back plate to the crank shaft.

Go for it Tim. Could be a good alternative to a lack of engines.

Yes, the ball bearings make it an ideal candidate. And hey, how about one of these in an electric heli conversion?

Geezus! You can get a G&Z with a pipe and spinner for that! For the kind of money, a Fora isn't out of the question. I'm going to leave this one to the guys that just like to tinker for no reason.[&:]

Ptulmer,

No reason?? ANY reason is a good reason to tinker,, that's what 1/2A is all about.

But yeah, that's a little rich.

Maybe the OFNA guys will hear our plea and give us a break.

SH Engines also makes an .07 sized car engine. Again it's a short case, short shaft deal but it's rated at 30,000rpm and is around $65 at places that I found it.

Tim

OH Jeez! Are we gonna go down the Toki road again?!?

ET,
Seriosly, though, I talked to Randy at K&B the other day and just for kicks asked him about the .18. Turns out we were both right. Toki made the crankcase and the crankshaft. K&B made the other parts and did the assembly.

So, now all our lives are complete!

Thank God! Now I can finally sleep!
My experience with Mecoa is that their tongues can be rather forked, don't know if he made the pistons, either. Just because he said so, does not make it so. Remember....he told you before he made the engine from the ground up, no?
At any rather, whoever made the piston...like I said...the "K&B" 18 is a Toki engine.
And I would GUESS this "Picco" 06 is a Toki 06, too. Look at the pics of both. Toki makes engines for lots of people, why not the Italians?
And as far as RPM figures, well, car engines list outrageous figures that can be attained with a flywheel and no load...like someone else pointed out...wait to see what it will do with a PROP.
