Default RE: Frequency Scanner?

ORIGINAL: bhorton

Can someone recommend a frequency scanner for a small club? What type of scanners does the AMA own? Our club wanted something with better range than the Hobbico scanner.

Thanks
Scanners can be a good thing especially for telling you when a transmitter is on within the immediate area. However it may well be a point to be mindful of is that our 72MH. transmitters are in the VHF (Very High Frequency) range and are subject to those characteristics of that range. The frequency is strictly line-of-sight, and subject to being blocked and/or redirected by irregular terrain, steel/steel reinforced concrete, and reflected off water as a light ray reflects from a mirror.

Therefore what a scanner picks up on the ground may not be all that an aircraft is subjected to when a hundred or more feet in the air. Just to keep in mind. [sm=what_smile.gif]
