There are just too many possible things that could be wrong here to really give you any timely advice...[&o]
You have already made the biggest mistake - buying something of questionable quality, from someone that you do not know, about which you know nothing... not good [

BUT; you had the good sense to try it at home before you went out to go flying.
What you really need to do is find a local club, meet the chief instructor and ask for some help.
If the fellow knows his stuff, he will be able to check out the plane from end to end quickly and send you off with a shopping list as well as a to do list. (repairs and adjustments)
Then he can test fly it for you, trim it up and start teaching you the fundamentals of flying.
