The short answer is yes, you do. Why? Part of being a great heli pilot (IMHO) is having the discipline to not fly a heli unless it's in 100% flying condition. There is nothing more unsafe and unstable as a heli that's not balanced properly and performing as it should.
Do yourself a favor and consider it part of the learning process. Learn to enjoy working on your heli and LEARNING what it takes to make it work and perform optimally. One day I'll bet you'll be glad you did.
