A "flute" is the segment of corogated plastic. If you look at Coro end-on, you see a row of little boxes, those are the flutes.

Here's a picture of the horizontal stab from my Rapier plane. You can see the flutes at the bottom, and you can see how one side of one flute was cut away to make a hinge.
