erm... as for flute not even i know what it means, but i only joined R/C airplanes a few weeks ago...
try something basic, cheap n' easy such as an ugly stick (dont let the name put you off, they arent that bad) or a Free Flight/control line plane.
just my 2 cents... you could check http://www.modelaircraft.org/plansall/m-plans.pdf and see if they have them there, then you can order them

A "flute" is the segment of corogated plastic. If you look at Coro end-on, you see a row of little boxes, those are the flutes.
Here's a picture of the horizontal stab from my Rapier plane. You can see the flutes at the bottom, and you can see how one side of one flute was cut away to make a hinge.

Sure, though it's not much to look at, looks a lot like a stick. It's an SSC-class combat plane, so it's built to be simple and rugged with out much regards to looks. I just had that picture sitting on a website.
Two Rapiers during a combat match. Mine is the red one.

Karate2Kid,
I don't think I have heard of anyone flying combat with a .76. The damage when the planes hit will be immense, not to mention the pieces flying toward the pilots.
You might want to look into one of the established .15-.25 classes, or even a .46 for club combat. A .76 is just huge!

.76 class combat? Who are you flying against with that kind of power?
You'd do better with smaller engines, like Alex said, the damage to the planes goes up quite a bit as the engine power goes up.
I'm also not sure I understand what you're asking when you said "what happened" above. Do you mean that picture? I think it was taking right after a mid-air between those two planes, though I'm not sure. I used that picture because it was the first I found that showed the plane from a good angle where you could see the shape of the wing and fuse and so on.

Judging from the streamers, Id guess just after a mid air...
The first combat spads we flew at our club were .40 size spads we down loaded off spadtothebone.com. I built a 48" Devistator v tail rig and a few other variations of it. If you go to the spad forum there are also links to plans there. I started out with a K&B 65 on mine at about 5 pounds. It was very fast. We eventually went to more standard nimble .25 size planes though we do still fly open C rules at club events using .40-46 size engines once a year or so. .40 size or less is good guideline, we like the 40 size combat cause more people here have old trainer motors lying around than .25s.
Have fun and be safe, combat adds additional risks due to the nature of the game.

I know this is kinda out of date according to the original post dates but:
I would also like to have the link to plans for the SPADrastic or the Talon.....
The link in post #2 and #4 are no longer viable.....
I am an accomplished builder, have built 2 Spadette LC-40 trainers,
A dogfighter which is yet to be maidened,
Have a Spad Stick in process,
and About half way finished one of draftman1's Coyote,
not counting the several balsa planes i have built and flown over my years in the hobby before I found plastic.....

draftman1,
Again let me say it is not my intention to hi-jack this thread.
In reply to your question about the Coyote:
Got the wing finished except for the graphics and installing the axels and wheels.
Got the fuse built and rear servos mounted.
Got the fuse covered. I covered it in white to make it more visible (the white vinly is brighter than the downspout).
Got the fuel tank and engine mounted.
Got the stab and fin ready to mount.
Finally figured out the tail gear and got it set up.
Hope to maiden Friday if it doesn't rain.
Need a little enlightnment on the canopy.
Will post picture of finished plane here if I can learn how to do it or will e-mail to you.
Have fun in KC
