Default RE: Saito FA-82a Break-In

Redfly, I use 15% nitro with 17-18% synthetic, but I add a couple of ounces of Klotz castor for additional protection. For the 82, a 13x8 wood prop will be good for break-in. Remember to use double jam lock nut for safety. The Saito plug is good for break-in, but I normally change to an OS F after break-in. My break-in program is something like this:

High-end needle 4 turns out, low-end needle factory set (0.5mm from flush)

4000 rpm max first 15-20 mins

5500 rpm subsequent 10 mins

6500 rpm subsequent 10 mins

7500 rpm subsequent 10 mins

At this point break-in is considered completed.

Adjust high and low ends. Richen the high end 300-400 rpm from the peak. It may be difficult to get a solid idle of 2000 rpm initially, but after 1-2 gallons, it should be easier

Adjust valve gaps to 0.002 inch after 1-2 hours

All the best to you!
