The mark up on RTR or kits is not a whole lot but that is to get you in the hobby but replacement parts have a fair mark up. Case in point you can buy a Savage X SS kit for around $420 and if you buy the factory replacement engine it is all most half that much! Bad thing is the hobby shops are the ones that get screwed, as it is the manufacture and suppliers that make the real money! I would be willing to bet a engine that sells for $200 cost the manufacture at the most $50 make.
I realize the hobby shops are not the ones setting unreasonable prices. I just burns me to see the prices for these tiny bottles of filter oil. I just went down to the local motorcycle shop and picked up a bottle of Uni Filter Oil for foam filters. I got 16oz for $4.95. If it's good enough for Honda, Yamaha and others, it's good enough for me.
